The brief was simple: make it feel like checking into a hotel, every night.
We built the calm in layers. Fluted walls, soft neutral bedding and a glass pendant give the room depth without adding noise.

Less noise, more room to breathe. The stairs used to close the living room in.

Solid half-walls, fragmented soffits and competing finishes made the space feel smaller than it was. We took it all down and rebuilt from scratch: floating treads, glass rails and one calm palette that lets the stone and the light lead.

Texture sets the mood. In this second bedroom: fleece on plum bedding, an olive window seat, an upholstered headboard.

Closer in, there is a woven pillow, a houndstooth cushion on a round chair and a wall with a fine grain that catches the daylight. The colors stay in one quiet range, so the textures carry the room.

CI Design + Build at a client’s home: a w**e cellar full of stories from around the world.

We designed this River North cellar around the homeowners’ travels. Glass walls keep the collection part of the living space, every shelf is lit from behind, and a rolling ladder reaches the top row.

Architect, designer and general contractor, one Turnkey team. In collaboration with Carrie McCormick.
