Not every piece of furniture belongs against a wall.

One of our favorite ways to make a room feel more inviting is by pulling the furniture into the space instead of pushing it to the edges.

When a room has multiple entry points, floating the furniture creates a natural gathering place while allowing traffic to move comfortably around it. In rooms with a single entrance, placing furniture against the wall often feels just right.

There isn’t one formula that works every time. The best layouts always respond to the architecture of the room. 🤍

A sample only tells you so much, but we could see this one right away.

It’s a mural rather than a pattern, so the design runs across the whole wall instead of repeating. That gold line only happens once, and we knew exactly where we wanted it to land. The gold is metal leaf, which is what makes it glow instead of sitting flat.

Still gets us every time 🤍

Nobody tells you how many decisions go into building a home until you are standing in a tile showroom for the third time questioning everything. 😂

Analysis paralysis is real and it hits almost every client at some point. The options are endless and it is easy to lose sight of where you started and where you are trying to go.

But that is exactly what the EKD team is here for. We hold the vision when it feels like a lot. We remember the end goal when you are drowning in samples. And we help bring every space together so the whole home feels connected... not like a collection of individual decisions made on hard days.

Turns out, some of the most beautiful spaces aren’t perfectly matched at all. ✨

Unlacquered brass, polished nickel, and oil-rubbed bronze sharing the same kitchen? Yes, please.

Mixing metals creates a layered, lived-in look that feels far more interesting than sticking to just one finish. It adds personality, warmth, and the kind of detail that makes a space feel thoughtfully collected over time.

Our favorite approach: pick a few finishes you love, repeat them throughout the room, and trust that they can coexist beautifully.

A burnt orange velvet sofa, a highland cow staring you down from the wall, and a city view out the window.

This den has a lot going on and we mean that as the highest compliment. 🤍

This is the Lincoln Park penthouse. A space we designed for empty nesters who were very clear about who they are and exactly how they wanted to live.

We styled this den to meet that energy: warm, a little unexpected, and completely theirs.

Our wishlist? Gorgeously impractical. Silk velvet. Marble. Unlacquered brass. The stuff that patinas and lives a little.

We’re also dying over a metal countertop from François.

More vintage. More found. More one-of-a-kind.

And silver’s back — pewter, brushed nickel, polished nickel, all of it.

Top of Erin’s list though? Jacob Elordi. Obviously.
