Story time...
I had the weirdest thing happen to me yesterday while I was eating lunch (rice pilaf)...
I kept having the feeling like I was eating something sour on my right side....you know- that tingly/pucker-y feeling you get under your tongue/along your jaw when you eat something tangy.
I thought "that's weird, this rice is pretty bland". But it kept happening with every bite....and it continued to feel that way even AFTER I was done eating.
I started pressing on the side of my face as I tried to figure out what was going on. It didn't hurt or anything, but it kinda felt swollen. I had to be imagining things. π€
I finally decided to go to the bathroom to look in the mirror and I was in shock with what I saw - my right jaw/ear was totally swollen!!! I was dumbfounded, how did this happen? Everything was fine a second ago!?
Was it my lymph nodes? Did I have some sort of infection? Was I having an allergic reaction?
I was kinda scared! π³
I immediately left work and went straight to Q-Care.
While I sat in the waiting room, I began to Google my symptoms and I quickly diagnosed myself with a clogged salivary gland/salivary stones.....and sure enough, that's what they told me it was. βοΈ
Who knew that was even a thing?! π€―
Anyway, they prescribed me an antibiotic so that it doesn't get infected and recommended that I suck on some hard candy, & use a warm compress to try to "unclog" my glad. π€’
After a few hours, the swelling started to subside and I got excited...sucking on hard candy really did work! π
BUT, according to The Mayo Clinic, "these symptoms ususlly last about one to two hours, then diminish....UNTIL YOUR NEXT MEAL".
Ugh!!!π€¦ββοΈ
The good news - it never came back! π
Last night, I went to bed with a warm compress for good measure, but so far, so good, no issues today!
I know, this is kinda a weird story, but I thought that maybe it would help someone along the way. π€·ββοΈπ¬
The more you know. π
