Our Barrier Inlet Screen Research Project just earned an ACEC Ohio Outstanding Award in the 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards!

Sponsored by ODOT, this work focused on a simple but important problem, debris clogging barrier inlets and creating safety issues on Ohio roadways. The research showed that the right inlet screen designs help keep water moving, reduce flooding and maintenance, and keep trash out of local waterways, making roads safer and communities cleaner across the state.

Shoutout to Anil Tangirala, Justin Kerns, and Chad Boyer, along with our university partners, for turning research into real‑world benefits for the communities we serve.
