A beautiful bathroom is one thing. A bathroom that works for everyday life is another.

When designing a bathroom, I always think about what needs to be stored before deciding on the cabinetry.

A recessed medicine cabinet can keep everyday essentials within reach, while vanity drawers provide organized storage without cluttering the countertop.

The goal isn’t to add more cabinets. It’s to create thoughtful storage that feels like part of the design.

Because a well-designed bathroom should feel calm, organized, and effortless.

Would you prefer a clean mirror or a concealed medicine cabinet?

A well-designed room can still feel cold, flat, or unfinished if the lighting is doing all the wrong work.

Lighting is not just about brightness.
It shapes the mood of a space.

When a room relies only on overhead lighting, it can feel harsh and one-dimensional.
But when you layer lighting — ambient, task, and accent — the whole space begins to feel softer, warmer, and more inviting.

The furniture may stay the same.
The finishes may stay the same.
But the experience of the room changes completely.

That’s why lighting is never an afterthought in good design.

Which feels better to you: flat lighting or layered lighting?

Small home? You may have more usable space than you think.

One of the things I look at when designing a compact home is how each piece of furniture can serve more than one purpose.

A built-in bench can provide seating and storage. A bed can hold extra linens. A fold-down desk can create a workspace without taking up valuable floor space all day.

These are small design decisions that can make a noticeable difference in everyday living.

The goal isn’t to fit more furniture into your home. It’s to make better use of the space you already have.

Which of these 8 ideas would you use in your home?

The best storage doesn’t look like storage.

A well-designed built-in should feel like a natural part of the architecture, not just another piece of furniture.

In this space, a custom built-in combines seating, concealed storage, and open shelving into one cohesive design.

Rather than filling the area with separate pieces, everything has its place.

It’s these small, thoughtful decisions that make a space feel more intentional, functional, and refined.

Would you consider a custom built-in for your home?

It’s not the most glamorous part of a kitchen, but it’s one you’ll appreciate every day.

A built-in garbage bin is one of those small details that can make your kitchen more functional without compromising its appearance.

By integrating waste storage into the cabinetry, you can keep trash out of sight, free up floor space, and make everyday cooking and cleanup more convenient.

I particularly like dual-compartment pull-outs for separating trash and recycling. When positioned thoughtfully near the sink or food preparation area, they make the kitchen workflow feel more natural.

Of course, placement matters. You still need to consider cabinet space, accessibility, and how the pull-out works alongside nearby appliances.

It’s a practical feature worth considering before finalizing your kitchen cabinetry.

Would you choose a built-in garbage bin for your kitchen?

Save this idea for your next kitchen renovation.

Your home feels disconnected? Sometimes the problem is right beneath your feet.

Flooring is one of the largest visual surfaces in a home, yet it's often selected room by room without considering how everything connects.

When designing an interior, I pay attention to how materials transition from one space to another.

Using a consistent flooring material through connected living spaces can create a calmer, more cohesive look.

That doesn't mean every room needs identical flooring. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other spaces may need different materials for practical reasons.

The key is making those transitions feel intentional rather than accidental.

Good design isn't always about adding more. Sometimes it's about creating better connections between what is already there.

Save this for your next renovation or new home project.

The art of coffee table styling is knowing what to add—and what to leave out.

A beautifully styled coffee table doesn’t need to be filled with decorative objects. It’s about creating the right balance of form, texture, and proportion.

I like to start with a few thoughtfully selected pieces. A stack of books to create a foundation, a sculptural object to add character, and something organic to bring softness.

Mixing materials such as stone, glass, wood, and ceramics adds depth without overwhelming the arrangement.

And sometimes, the most important styling decision is leaving a little space.

The result should feel collected, effortless, and personal—not overly arranged.

What’s your favorite coffee table accessory—books, candles, or sculptural objects?

Save this for your next living room refresh.

Same bathroom. Two different approaches.

For this bathroom renovation concept, I explored how the placement of one material could change the overall feeling of the space.

Option 1: Extend the green textured tiles beyond the shower for a stronger architectural statement.

Option 1A: Keep the green tiles within the shower, allowing the warm neutral walls and natural white oak to create a quieter balance.

Both follow the same warm mid-century modern direction, but each brings a different level of contrast and visual interest.

Sometimes, the smallest design decisions have the greatest impact.

Which would you choose — Option 1 or 1A?
