Blue collar workers unite! Who wore it better? I came across my father in law wearing the same uniform I wore when I was 19 (?) as assistant gardener Wi******er Mystery House . I’m guessing this was him in the 1960’s

26 years ago today. He’s still a hottie. He’s still my biggest supporter. He’s still my rock. And right this moment he’s cleaning out 8 cat litter boxes… what a good man! And the last pic… we are pretty sure my brother wrote that in the venue bathroom. Everyone had to let me know 😂

I miss the trail already. From a young age (10?) my mom stated “you are the happiest while hiking”. This is so true. I love my life.. I have many hobbies, a wonderful husband, a great job, friends and family, and a LOT OF cats but the simplicity of the trail is so intoxicating. But it does come with its challenges. I have a bad back ( weeding since the age of 9) and it doesn’t stop hurting and loosening up until an hour into the hike. Last year while hiking the high elevation part of the PCT ( John Muir trail) in the sierras, I puffed up a lot. Picture 2 is me the day after I summited Whitney ( highest peak in continental US). I showed this to my doctor and he said “oh God” !! This lead to an array of tests… heart, lung, kidney. All is good. But lots of ibuprofen use training for triathlons did mess up my kidneys a bit 🥴. Conclusion is, I just puff at altitude. I also have had multiple injuries with my shins/feet. I hear from people that say I’m lucky that I can do these because I don’t have injuries… not true. Here is a slide show of them 😂. This last trip I had severe pain from a neuroma on my foot ( already had one removed from my left foot), my ankle injury flared up and of course my back was an issue. Just keep moving. Your body will thank you. The last pic is one of my favorites from the last 3 years. This is coming out of the sierras. Joel, my hiking partner, and I look wrecked. But I was soooo happy.

650 miles done!!!! Mount Shasta all the way through Oregon to the Washington border of the PCT. My hiking partner has finished the whole trail. I have done 2128 of the 2654 miles over the last 3 years. I have no need to complete the rest. The remaining miles are burnt or not that scenic. I’m ready to only hike the most amazing scenery there is. I’m so fortunate that my health and body allow me to push myself. But with that said, it was not without pain… feet nerve issues, tendon issues and of course my back. But everything is a mental challenge even pain. I’m glad I can end my 40’s with a big accomplishment. Entering my 50’s next year, I have a crazy list of goals and adventures I want to accomplish. Of course none of this would be possible without the support of my husband, Joe. He has a crazy work schedule and works many more hours than 40 ( can we say triple that!!) has cared for our 40 cats plus took on the care of two dumped puppies while I was gone. It’s his turn now to go have some fun.

Oh Oregon! Wtf . We have hiked only 1 day in Oregon without any fire damage. But that day we were buzzed by tankers scooping water for a fire right by us. We have been outchasing fires the whole way, dodging smoke and being thoroughly depressed by the shear destruction of the landscape. Yes, California has fires but not to this degree. Talking to locals it seems there is a lot of miscommunication between agencies and a lack of tankers or the delay in getting them in the air. It’s just sad all the way around. These forests will never come back and the rate they are being destroyed is heartbreaking. Sorry for the bummer post. The beautiful parts are beautiful and the views are wonderful if you focus on the positive. Stay safe firefighters and thank you!
