Got to drive a much bigger forklift than normal!! Vroom Vroom . Plus first time I’ve seen blooms on this Portulacaria ( Ceraria) namaquensis. Love how pink and billowy they are. Great contrast with their small leaves.

Bulbophyllum binnendijkii… a student described the scent as that of a bloated body pulled from a river. I didn’t ask any further questions 😂. Thank you for this one and thanks Ryan for taking good care of it.

This Saturday!!! 9-1. We have a lot of plants for sale. 97% are indoor plants .. ie HOUSEPLANTS!!! Check out conservatory.ucdavis.edu for exact location and directions ( the conservatory doesn’t have an actual address). We are located close to the campus fire department.

There’s a lot of people whose jobs keep them up at night but is it because you choose to house the most venomous plant in the world?!! Very exciting for the UK poison garden to reach out to us and to see all the public interest but I’m the one who gets to handle it and take the fall if it goes bad 🥴

The most painful plant on Earth: Gympie Gympie.

Dendrocnide moroides delivers its venomous sting through razor-sharp trichomes.

These tiny hairs inject neurotoxic peptides, called gympietides, into the nervous system. Even intravenous morphine may not fully relieve the pain.

It is valuable for pain research and drug development.

The only publicly displayed one in the U.S. is ours!

Busy plant weekend. Yesterday I gave a 3 hour houseplant class to the 2026 class of Monterey county master gardeners in Salinas. I recorded an episode of with Bruce last night. Today and then giving a private tour .. somehow I’ll fit in a run, piano practice and feeding 44 cats! If I’m not busy busy I get antsy so it’s a good thing 😂
