this basement bathroom didn’t exist before

but with how great the rest of the basement was, we knew we wanted to turn it into a true guest suite with its own bathroom.

luckily, there was plenty of unfinished space to work with which meant we could fit in a full bath, a laundry room with built-ins, AND a large storage closet without sacrificing the functionality of the space.

a little reworking of the floor plan went a long way.

Motawi Tileworks Projects - Our mom actually sent these our way and we’re so glad she did. They’re colorful, playful, and such a fun way to bring some personality into a space.

DeMellier “The Stockholm” Bag - Kim Lapin influenced me and now I can’t stop thinking about it. It looks like the perfect work bag that is both beautiful and practical.

Toni Darling Frank - I’m obsessed with their tall salt and pepper mills. I love the hand painted feel of their products and how they bring a little fun and pops of color to everyday accessories.

Wallpaper Borders. I know, I know… but hear me out. This isn’t your gmas wallpaper border. I love how it can add another layer of interest and a pop of color. Very excited to see this one making a comeback.

SIN’s New Lighting Collection. I love a sculptural light that doubles as art. These pieces look amazing both on and off, adding beauty and a warm glow to a space.

Danny D’s Mud Shop. I could buy everything off his website. I love the details, the unique plates, and the slight western vibe throughout his work. It feels very cool and unique

This basement was just waiting for an upgrade. It already had great bones and was the perfect space for relaxing and entertaining - we just helped it reach its full potential.

We reselected the finishes throughout, gave the fireplace a fresh coat of paint, added a new bar with warm wood paneling that complements the staircase, and transformed the office into a space that’s both beautiful and functional. Every update was designed to feel cohesive with the rest of the home.

July Current Crushes - After a week of vacation, we’re feeling extra inspired. Here’s everything we’ve been crushing on lately.

Kelly’s Crushes:
1. Lucy White Art. I’ve been loving her renter-friendly wallpaper, especially The Jacqueline in Pomegranate, Celadon, and Lime. Her fruit and floral prints are so fun, and I also love her abstract and still life pieces.
2. Coverlets. With these hot summer nights, I’ve been eyeing a coverlet instead of a duvet. Lulu & Georgia and Schoolhouse both have some beautiful options.
3. Willow Vanities. Such a great prefab option with tons of different styles. I’ve especially been loving their curved vanities and contemporary collection.

Ann Marie’s Crushes:
4. Color-Stained Cabinetry. I would literally pay someone to let me do this in their kitchen. It is my newest obsession, and I won’t rest until I get to design one.
5. Jeremy Frey’s Handwoven Baskets. The craftsmanship is unreal. Every piece is handwoven using traditional Wabanaki techniques, making each basket feel like a work of art.
6. Oak Street’s Wall Easel. I love that it adds another layer to displaying artwork, and it even works beautifully with decorative plates.

A few floor plan changes completely transformed this space. Swipe to see the before.

What was once the primary bathroom became the secondary bath by simply rethinking where the doorway belonged. We envisioned this as a bathroom for kids and guests, so we leaned into a playful feel while keeping the design elevated. The slatted wood vanity continues a detail you’ll see throughout the home, tying each space together.

We immediately fell in love with this stained glass window, but the original layout didn’t let it shine. Instead of being welcomed by this beautiful feature, you walked straight into a series of narrow hallways.

By opening up the floor plan, we were able to make the window the focal point and create an entry that feels bright, welcoming, and connected to the rest of the home.

We also raised the ceiling to 10 feet through the entry and dining areas, helping natural light travel deeper into the home and making these spaces feel more open. As you move into the living room and bedroom wing, the ceiling lowers again, creating a subtle transition that makes those spaces feel a little extra cozy.

It’s a great example of how thoughtful architectural changes and intentional interior design can completely transform the feeling of a home.

currently dreaming about crawling back into this bed to sleep another 12 hours. i swear it takes me way too long to get back into the swing of things after traveling.
