Kips Bay has been one of those career milestones I’ve looked toward ever since I started in design, so I’m incredibly honored to be designing a bedroom for this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas. It’s a privilege to be part of something with such an incredible legacy, and I’m excited to finally introduce “The Nile Nocturne.”

I imagined the room for a well-traveled collector with an instinct for the unexpected, a taste for beautiful things and a few stories best left untold. Egyptian Revival, French Art Deco and English antiques come together, drawing on the allure of Cairo, Paris and the English countryside with a distinctly modern sense of intrigue. Moody Schumacher chinoiserie wallcovering meets a suede ceiling traced in gold faux bois, antique Egyptian rugs and a mirrored Art Deco screen recalling Coco Chanel’s famous staircase. Overhead, seven brass chandeliers make one sweeping gesture.

A little history. A little friction. A few unexpected turns.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing the journey from concept and installation to opening night. I hope you’ll follow along as “The Nile Nocturne” unfolds.

Troy Rivington is an award-winning interior designer, creative director, and Principal and Chief Creative Officer of Rivington Marx Interiors, a Denver-based luxury residential design firm with projects nationwide. With decades of experience in high-end residential design, Rivington approaches every project without a prescribed aesthetic. Instead, he allows the character of the property and the lifestyle of the client to guide the design. From refined city residences and expansive mountain homes to historic properties and comprehensive renovations, he considers proportion, scale, light, texture, and movement as integral elements of the overall composition. The result is a sense of cohesion and intentionality, where every detail contributes to the experience of the home. A powder room may be small, but its personality certainly doesn’t have to be.
The star of the show is this beautifully bespoke vanity, carved entirely from a gorgeous slab of richly veined Cristallo Rosa quartzite. We kept the lines clean and let the stone do the talking, then added warm brass, a simple mirror, and those fabulous fluted sconces.
It’s classic, sophisticated, and just a little bit naughty. A powder room that makes a quick pit stop feel like a destination.
No judgment if you linger. We won’t tell.

We had the absolute joy of celebrating our incredibly talented Senior Designer, Courtney, on her wedding day, and honestly, we couldn’t be more thrilled for her.
She is beyond loved, endlessly talented, wonderfully kind, and one of those truly special people who makes everything around her a little better. Watching someone so special begin this next chapter was a privilege, and celebrating her was the easiest thing in the world.
Courtney, we love you dearly. We’re lucky to have you, and even luckier to celebrate you. Here’s to love, laughter, and a lifetime of beautiful chapters (and rooms) ahead!!

There’s something we’ve been keeping to ourselves.
A little secret. A very good one.
For now, we’ll leave you with a few clues: a Peruvian textile, late 19th-century china, and a collection of wonderfully brutalist mid-century glasses. Three very different pieces, somehow telling the same story.
We’re not quite ready to spill the rest.
But soon.
And we have a feeling you’re going to want to see this one.

Creativity doesn’t arrive on a schedule. It shows up when it wants to. Sometimes it’s a gallery in New York City. Sometimes it’s the way light bends across a wall, a reflection that softens reality, or a color combination that lingers in your mind long after you’ve walked away.
Design isn’t about recreating what we’ve already seen. It’s about collecting moments, impressions, and ideas that eventually become something entirely new.
The spaces we create are shaped as much by these quiet moments of inspiration as they are by floor plans and fabric samples. Every project begins by seeing the world a little differently, then evolves into something deeply personal for the people who will call it home.
I didn’t know it at the time, but this moment at Salon 94+ would become the inspiration for one of our newest projects. The palette, the atmosphere, and the creative direction all began here, opening the door to a fresh new project for RMI.
