VAN BIBBER CREEK BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION |
Construction progress at Van Bibber Creek this week includes placement of the bridge at McIntyre Street and more to come! The bridge crosses over Van Bibber creek complete with a dedicated recreational trail underpass and adjoining eight-foot sidewalks/bike lanes. Van Bibber Creek trail connects local regional paths linking towards Ralston Creek, Clear Creek, and nearby open space corridors.
Check active Jefferson County Open Space notices before heading out, as ongoing regional park development and habitat work may affect different trail segments.

WALK IN THE WARD | Collaborative community planning in action!

The City of Thornton's “Walk in the Ward” series is a summer neighborhood event hosted by the City of Thornton where City Council members and residents walk the neighborhood in the early evening to discuss concerns, identify areas needing improvement, and highlight recent projects in each ward. It’s an opportunity for neighbors to connect, converse, and celebrate the improvements happening in their ward. This month, the walk took place at the recently completed Skylake Ranch Open Space.
Valerian, alongside our partners at Designscapes Colorado, was thrilled to be on-site to tour the 9.4-acre space and engage with the community.

The design focused heavily on accessibility and natural preservation, it features:

•A Nature Exploration Zone with unstructured play, shade shelters and benches

•Accessible trail connections to the Union Ditch Regional Trail

•Solar lighting

•Revegetation with native seeding and careful preservation of mature Cottonwood trees, to maintain the site's original character

BUCHANAN PARK | Big Things Are Happening at Buchanan Park!
We are thrilled to see our work with the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District (EPRD) coming to life! Valerian has been working closely with EPRD on their Park Master Plan, and this past month marked important milestones: the official groundbreaking for two major improvements within Buchanan Park.
Construction is officially kicking off this summer, with an anticipated completion date of September 2026! Here is a sneak peek at what’s coming:

•The Bear Creek Pavilion Project: A brand-new 2,250 SF open-air pavilion and stage designed for music and performing arts. It will feature a house lighting package and ample electrical hookups for flexible A/V setups.

•The All Wheels Park Project: An integrated community space blending colored concrete with the natural topography and landscaping.

A huge thank you to the many community groups and organizations whose funding made these projects possible.

Up next for EPRD? An all -abilities adventure playground!

RIBBON CUTTING |
Alderfer/Three Sisters Park West Trailhead Ribbon Cutting

The West Trailhead at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park is now open to the public just in time for the busy summer season! County Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper did the honor of cutting the ribbon to begin a new chapter for the Park. Park improvements include a new permeable paving parking lot, replacing the existing restroom and kiosk, park shelters, signage, preservation of the historic Alderfer barn and updated Bluebird Meadow and Wild Iris Trails.
The shelters are still under construction at this time, with Gooseberry and Kinnikinnick shelters expected to be completed in June and Foxtail and Poppy shelters expected to be completed in July. Once complete, Foxtail and Poppy Shelters will be reservable through the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District.
Near the heart of Evergreen, Alderfer/Three Sisters Park has stunning vistas, landmark rock formations, beautiful old stands of Ponderosa Pine, and the most trails per acre of any foothills park. It's time to lace up your hiking boots and check it out!

CLEAN UP | Volunteer Harvard Gulch Park Clean Up

Valerian stepped up to show some serious love for Harvard Gulch Park, tackling a trio of park care essentials. From keeping the grounds pristine to setting up the park for long-term health, Valerian was able to assist with the following tasks:

•Trash Cleanup: Clearing litter to keep the park beautiful and safe for local wildlife.

•Tree Mulching: Giving our leafy friends the nutrients and moisture retention they need to thrive.

•Trail Maintenance: Enhancing the paths so everyone in the community can enjoy a smooth, accessible stroll.
It’s dedicated volunteers who keep our Denver Parks vibrant, clean, and welcoming for everyone.

GES SPRING FEST | Fiesta De Primavera
The Globeville Elyria Swansea (GES) Coalition and BirdSeed Collective recently hosted a vibrant community celebration, weaving together art, music, food, and culture in the heart of Globeville. It was a beautiful afternoon dedicated to community and connection.
Valerian attended with our partners, OV consulting, and DOTI to share the latest plans and upcoming construction schedule for the 48th Avenue Greenway. With construction anticipated to begin this Summer/Fall, we are thrilled to see this project moving forward!

CHERRY CREEK RACE FOR THE WATERSHED |
Valerian sponsored and participated in the 5K walk/fun run again this year to support the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers Scholarship Fund!
SEMSWA and Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners invited their partner organizations within the Cherry Creek Basin to participate and extended the invitation to any interested staff members, family, or friends.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels had the choice to run or walk at Cherry Creek State Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for a great cause!
