The backsplash everyone told us we would regretā€¦ so we poured oil directly on it. šŸ˜

Our stone was properly sealed, and the oil sat right on the surface until we blotted it away. No soaking in. No stain. No panic.

Stone may not be the right choice for everyone, but we did our research and chose what we love for our home.

The warm wood. The creamy cabinets. The unlacquered brass. The stone backsplash. Every choice slowly turned this space into the kitchen we always wanted.

The ladder and stone have caused more drama than the entire kitchen renovation. šŸ˜‚

So letā€™s clear a few things upā€¦

The ladder wonā€™t stay out all the time. Itā€™s for reaching seasonal pieces and things we rarely use in the upper cabinets. No step stool. No built-in stools either. They would take up cabinet space and you canā€™t move them around.

The stone is sealed. We cook almost every meal at home, every day, and havenā€™t had any issues so far. We wiped down our old tile backsplash maybe twice in 11 years, so Iā€™m starting to wonder what everyone else is cooking. šŸ˜‚

If weā€™re making something that splatters, we can use plexiglass or a splatter shield when needed.

We chose this kitchen for how we live, and Iā€™d choose both again. šŸ¤
