đź‘‹ Meet Heidi Leib, Timber & Procurement Manager at NWH Eugene, OR.

For Heidi, a career in forestry started with a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect the forests she grew up exploring in Southern Oregon.

From fighting wildfires to studying forestry at Oregon State University and working on logging crews, Heidi developed a passion for the people, communities, and operations that keep the forest products industry moving.

Today, as Log & Timber Procurement Manager at NWH, Heidi works closely with landowners and loggers to source quality hardwood logs, support responsible forest management, and keep our mills supplied.

For Heidi, it's about much more than procuring timber. It's about building relationships, creating value, and supporting the rural communities that depend on a strong forest products industry.

We're proud to have Heidi on the NWH team!đź’š

What if every forestry decision considered the next seven generations?

For the Menominee Nation, that philosophy has guided forest management for hundreds of years.

"Forests of the First Stewards: Menominee Nation", a documentary from forestproud, explores how traditional knowledge, responsible harvesting, and a deep respect for the land have helped sustain a thriving forest while supporting the community and its economy.

It's a compelling look at how environmental stewardship and the wood products industry can work together and a reminder that healthy forests are essential to a sustainable future.

Ash combines a clean palette with the toughness to handle demanding use. Its bold, straight grain gives furniture, flooring, and architectural woodwork definition, while its strength and shock resistance make it a proven choice for sporting goods and tool handles. Ash machines and sands exceptionally well and accepts a range of finishes.

At NWH, we offer Ash in a range of thicknesses and grades from both the Glacial and Appalachian regions, tailored to manufacturers' needs. Regional grade options give manufacturers choices for long, clear cuttings and smaller components, making Ash adaptable to different products and production needs.

The case for building with wood goes well beyond its natural beauty.

New research from AkzoNobel and the University of Amsterdam / Universiteit van Amsterdam reinforces wood’s role in more sustainable building design. A lifecycle assessment found that wood-based façades and window frames had lower carbon footprints than comparable alternatives made from aluminum, steel and PVC.

The findings highlight what makes wood such a compelling building material: natural beauty, lasting performance and the potential to reduce environmental impact through thoughtful material selection and proper protection.

At NWH, we believe in the enduring value of wood and the opportunities it creates for better design and building.

There's nothing quite like the crack of a wooden bat, the roar of the crowd, and the excitement of October baseball. Here's to America's pastime, the traditions that bring us together, and another unforgettable World Series.

It all begins in the forest.

It’s National Forest Products Week, a time to recognize the incredible value of our forests and the products they make possible. From beautiful interiors and finely crafted furniture to the spaces where we live, work, and gather, North American hardwoods bring natural beauty, strength, and lasting value to everyday life.

At NWH, we’re proud to be part of an industry that transforms one of nature’s most remarkable renewable resources into something extraordinary.

What does the future of data center construction look like? It might include a lot more wood.

Microsoft is building two hyperscale data centers in Northern Virginia using a hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) system. Designed by Gensler and Thornton Tomasetti, the facilities are expected to reduce embodied carbon by 35% compared with conventional steel construction and 65% compared with typical precast concrete.

For NWH, projects like this are exciting because they demonstrate just how much potential wood has in the built environment. As architects, engineers and builders look for new ways to reduce embodied carbon, hardwoods are proving they can play a role in applications that extend far beyond where we traditionally expect to see it.

It is another example of innovation expanding what is possible with one of the world’s most remarkable natural materials.

👉 TAG A DESIGNER WHO LOVES DESIGN WITH A STORY.

Designers choose materials for how they look, feel and perform. But there is a bigger story behind every choice.

Our free, on-demand CEU, Specifying North American Hardwoods, explores the design characteristics of hardwood along with its ecological, cultural and wellness benefits, carbon impact and role in sustainable building.

Because understanding where a material comes from and what it contributes gives you more than something beautiful to design with. It gives your choices more meaning.

Tag a designer who should take the CEU.
