How to build a cinderblock raised garden bed step-by-step 🌱

1. Mark out your size
(This one is 8ft x 14ft x 16in tall)
2. Dig out your footer/trench
3. Install 3–4 inches of gravel/rock and compact it well
(We use a 2x4 and a 4ft level to make sure everything stays the same height.)

This step is key because any uneven spots will create gaps and will be very noticeable.

4. Lay your first course of block level side-to-side and front-to-back
5. Dry lay the second layer, interlocking the corners first, before gluing anything down. This helps make sure everything looks good and stays secure.

Take your time on the base — the final result is only as good as the foundation 👌

Tired of that wavy, “snake-like” border look? Here’s how we fix it and make it LAST 👇

Over time, borders shift from settling, water runoff, and poor base preparation. That uneven look doesn’t just hurt appearance, it leads to bigger issues down the line.

🔧 How to fix it right:
• Pull and reset the affected blocks
• Regrade the base so it’s level and properly sloped
• Compact a solid foundation (this is everything)
• Add paver base (we use grey #68 rock) and set each block tight and straight
• Backfill and lock it in so it doesn’t move again

🧱 How to keep it looking clean long-term:
• Make sure there’s a solid, compacted base under every block
• Use proper edging or restraints where needed
• Keep water flowing AWAY from the border (drainage matters more than people think)
• Avoid soft spots because those are the first to sink and shift
• Periodically check for movement and correct early

A clean, straight border can completely change the look of your home, and when it’s done right, it stays that way for years.

If your edges are starting to wave or sink, now’s the time to fix it before it gets worse.
