🌿 Community Invitation: Grand Opening of Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens (TAG) 🌿

The City of Charlotte Landscape Management team has spent the past several years establishing a beautiful collection of plantings at their facility—now known as Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens (TAG)—and they’re excited to open it to the community.

📅 Saturday, June 20, 2026
⏰ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 701 Tuckaseegee Road, Charlotte, NC

This special event will celebrate the opening of TAG as a new community space designed for people to enjoy, learn, and connect with nature.

🌼 Event highlights include:
• Ribbon cutting ceremony
• Pollinator garden showcase + registration information
• Educational activities & games
• Live music 🎶
• Food & drinks 🍴

The event will also introduce the City’s new pollinator garden registration process and highlight the importance of supporting pollinators in the community.

Neighbors and community members are warmly invited to attend and be part of this celebration.

Growing food is empowering. Watching a plant produce a fruit that feeds yourself and your family renews your spirit which empowers you. Learning and cultivating a new hobby is empowering. We can do so much with just a little seed and some ambition. “They protested in rows of tomatoes…” We can all be superheroes, the power is in the garden. I like to use my superpower for salsa! How about you?

Are you setting yourself up for disappointment before you even bring your new plant baby home? We are often awe struck at all the blooms and fruit ready for the picking filling the nursery tables. It’s mesmerizing! This habit is hurting the future production of our garden. Here’s a simple explanation and helpful tip to correct a common mistake we’ve all made. Do NOT buy the plant with the biggest, showiest blooms. Do NOT buy the tomato plant with cherry tomatoes ripe and ready. Do NOT buy the pepper basket loaded with peppers! That new plant needs all of its reserved energy to survive the transplant shock that is coming and put its best show on in YOUR garden! You are searching for the veggie plant with no fruit yet, you are looking for clusters of tight closed flower buds that haven’t opened yet. You want to look right past that show off plant and buy the shy one!!! The more we know the more we grow! 👏🏻🌿❤️

Come plant a raised bed of Lisianthus and Salvia plugs for a small cutting flower garden with me. Let’s be honest with the craziness of the world these days most people could use a little flower blessing and I’m heart set on sharing these future flowers just for that blessing. First time ordering plugs from a real flower farm. 👏🏻 Eeekkk Let’s grow!

Pro Tip: When rain is in the forecast put your hanging plants/baskets in the yard to soak it up. There is something magical about rainwater. I’m sure there is a science to it but I like to think it’s just natures magic. (Side Pro Tip: Have your garden cat inspect said plants.) Saves you time, replenishes nutrients for your plants and reminds you to give them a little organic fertilizer before you hang them back up. Most hanging baskets are heavy feeders and require extra nutrients that their small amount of soil can’t provide all season. Mother Nature saying “help me help you!” So put those baskets out to soak and do a little rain dance back in the house with the time you saved. Happy gardening friends! 😘❤️🌿Allison
