While taking a casual stroll through the garden, I gathered an assortment of perennial flowers... In the video, I discussed two types of honeysuckle: Kintzley's Ghost Honeysuckle, with its distinctive silver dollar-like appearance, and another older variety without a specified cultivar name.

Here in Indiana as we wait for the dahlias to grow and bloom I took a moment to walk around and admire some of the other beautiful things happening in the garden. This year I tried a couple of new alliums, I’m hooked! Who knew they came in such beautiful colors!

What’s blooming in your garden right now?

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a big alcohol drinker—but lately I’ve been enjoying a few delicious cocktails! There’s just something extra special about using ingredients straight from your own garden—it really elevates the whole experience. 🌿
What could be more perfect than apple mint for a Mint Julep? It’s the featured drink at tonight’s Kentucky Derby party… or honestly, just the perfect treat after a long day in the garden!

Here’s a simple (and seriously yummy) recipe—the secret is steeping the mint in the syrup:

Apple Mint Simple Syrup (makes about 8 cocktails)
Bring 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar just to a near boil over medium heat.
Add 30–40 apple mint leaves. Remove from heat and let steep for about an hour, or until it cools to room temperature.
Strain out the leaves and refrigerate for a few hours (or up to several days).

Apple Mint Julep
Muddle a few fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a glass with 1 oz apple mint simple syrup.
Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Add 2 ounces of bourbon.
Stir until the ice is slightly melted—this makes it smoother and less strong (my personal preference!).

Enjoy! 🄃🌱

A little garden tip:
Apple mint is a perennial in our area (Zone 6a) and thrives in a sunny spot where it has room to spread—because it will spread quickly! It also makes a beautiful filler for arrangements. Just be sure to cut it early in the morning before the sun hits it, then give it about 24 hours to fully hydrate. For best results, hydrate in a cool, dark space (ideally 50–60°F).

If you know a bride that enjoys a more hands on experience and a unique experience with the bridal party, I highly recommend this!

This isn’t for every BRIDE… and that’s exactly the point. šŸ’

This experience is for the bride who wants to slow down and feel the days leading up to her wedding.

The one who values time with her people just as much as the details.
Who loves the beauty of flowers that are grown, gathered, and created by hand.
Who isn’t looking for one more appointment—but something meaningful, memorable, and a little bit different.

At The Coop at Avia Gardens, your bridal party steps into a relaxed, private setting where the pace softens…
Music plays, laughter fills the space, and hands get busy creating something beautiful together.

You’ll build your own wedding florals from locally grown blooms—surrounded by your closest people—turning what is usually a task into a moment you’ll never forget.

It’s not about perfection.
It’s about connection, creativity, and being fully present in a once-in-a-lifetime season.

✨ Limited availability for 2026 brides. Dates are booked around peak bloom season. Accepting 2027 booking now.

If that feels like you… you already know.
