Most products offered are harvested or grown from the Maxwell Microprairie restoration, a small habitat restoration in SW Louisiana. What we sprout, plant, and sell will help maintain and improve the property and spread native plants throughout the region.

My kid 3D printed a sieve set so I can separate seeds. Seed prep just got so much easier, and seed packs will be a lot cleaner. Below are Florida blueheart seeds after the seed pods were crushed and filtered down through a 0.6 mm mesh.

Truck is loaded up and ready to go!

Tomorrow, May 26, from 5:30 to 7:30pm I’ll be at the Grounded in Nature Plant Club meeting at 115 W Oak Ln, Lake Charles, LA 70605 (the house with murals all over it just south of Rikenjaks).

It’s open to everyone with a plant swap, discussion, and some free info about native plants.

For availability, just look at my plant list pinned at the top of the page. I should have at least a little bit of everything listed.

Forget your European honey bees, this is a BEE! Yep, that metallic blue/green sweat bee is one of the dozens of types of local native bees you can attract with native plants.

You can even just pull your phone out and get OK pics of them if you move right. Just don’t stand in fire ants like I just did.

Plants are looking great as we enter my favorite month for native plants: June!

Slender Rosinweed is blooming all over. Recent UL studies found that it is the #1 bee plant in south Louisiana for number of bees and number of species. If you want pollinators, you need Rosinweed.

Our seedlings from this spring are building up, and I’m putting them in bigger pots. Grab them now before that happens.

I have a flat of frog fruit. It’s a great ground cover, especially in damp areas.

See pics below.

Check it out. See step 4: we have plenty available, and it looks like some wet weather to plant in the forecast. A lot of our plants are getting big, so get them before I bump them up into bigger pots!

Lafayette is doing it right, and Lake Charles should follow suit.

After 3" of rain, come look at our property full of deep rooted native plants and the heavily disced pasture right across the road. I bet you can guess which one doesn't have standing water the next day.

Can native plants help with drainage and lower maintenance costs? Lafayette officials think so bit.ly/4uCBjeG

What’s growing in Lafayette’s yards could be reshaping the city’s future.

The Iowa Branch of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library, which was recently certified as a native habitat, is having their ribbon cutting on May 22. You should come out and support native plants in public spaces. If you have native seeds or any native plants you could donate, I'd suggest doing that, too. Let's help them pack their tubs!
