When you walk through our doors, every single plant on our benches was put there with intent! 🌿
​We don’t just pick plants out of a hat. Before a variety earns a spot here, it goes through serious research, testing, and trial runs to ensure it’s going to thrive right here in Iowa and bring fun and success to your home gardens. We love sticking with our tried-and-true favorites, but we also love pushing the envelope with new trial varieties—even giving free trial plants to our own crew so they can test-grow them in their own yards!
​🎥 Check out the video below to go behind the scenes on our latest research trip! We recently traveled to Illinois for the Ball Seed Customer Appreciation Days. We spent time exploring the charming town of Geneva, then dove straight into research mode at the Ball Field Trials. We saw how new species and colors grow in containers vs. in-ground, and took three deep-dive tours of their automated Seed Lab to trace how seeds are handled from raw harvest all the way until they reach our benches.

What are your summer favorites? I'll start by showing mine. *The lisianthus is always a hit. I have vases in every room. *My favorite container with Cuphea, Ageratum Monarch Magic, Callie Pink Calibrachoa and trailing yellow snapdragon. *And my little helpers with their own watering cans.

🌿 The Piney Ridge Pot Sorting Center is finished: Help Us Stay Green! 🌿
​We love recycling and keeping plastic out of landfills, which is why our Pot Re-Use Center is open! However, to keep this program running smoothly, we need your help following a few important rules.
​We ONLY take back the specific pots that we sell our plants in. Because we directly reuse these for next year's crop, we cannot accept random pots from other greenhouses or big-box stores.
​
​🛑 Friendly Reminders:
​We are not a dumping station: If it didn’t come from Piney Ridge, please do not leave it here. We simply don't have the space or a use for random shapes and sizes, and disposing of them takes valuable time away from growing beautiful plants!
​Use the Sorting Station: When you bring your pots back, you’ll find our clearly marked sorting station right by the main entrance doors on the west corner of the building. Please take a quick moment to place your pots in their designated spots rather than leaving them in a mixed pile.
​Thank you so much for working with us to reuse, recycle, and keep our greenhouse organized! Your cooperation makes a massive difference. 🌸💚

Talk about hidden in plain sight! 🐰🌾
​I had the most amazing surprise right next to the aisle today—a little bunny nest that’s been tucked away right under our noses. I counted seven sweet babies today!
​It is absolutely incredible how the mother managed to keep them a secret for the last three weeks in such a busy spot. Up until now, she’s done a masterful job keeping them tucked in and hidden, but today she left them completely uncovered. Honestly, with temperatures hitting 80+ degrees, I can’t say I blame her—it was definitely a day to ditch the heavy blankets! ☀️
