A Paris spring morning, seen from a hotel window 🌿
In early 1897, Camille Pissarro rented a room at the HĂ´tel de Russie overlooking the Boulevard Montmartre and began painting the same street again and again, in sunshine and rain, by day and by night, through winter into spring. A persistent eye condition made working outdoors difficult for him, so the window became his studio, and that limitation gave us one of the most remarkable series in Impressionism.
In this spring view, fresh green trees line the boulevard while carriages and crowds dissolve into soft, quick brushstrokes under a pale sky. Pissarro wasn’t painting a single moment of Paris but the rhythm of modern city life, the very energy of Haussmann’s new boulevards.
Set against a deep burgundy wall and framed in warm gold, the painting turns a simple hallway into a gallery moment, its soft greens and creams bringing light and movement to a rich, classic interior.
