How about a non tree project I did today?
Both of our kids LOVE any type of water play. Our 8 year old is a thinker and loves to rearrange things and see all the possibilities of how 1 thing can be used. Put together this completely adjustable water wall today. They can move every piece of it around so the possibilities are endless on setting it up. Also love we can add more as we learn and think of different things! I can’t wait for them to see it and to watch them think of all the different ways to use it.

Tree Spotlight: Triumph Elm

Looking for a shade tree that grows fairly quickly, looks beautiful, and can handle Missouri’s unpredictable weather? Triumph Elm is one worth considering!

A few fun facts about Triumph Elm:
-Fast-growing shade tree – A great option if you don’t want to wait decades for a tree to start making an impact in your yard.
-Beautiful vase-shaped canopy – As it matures, Triumph Elm develops the classic wide, arching shape elms are known for, making it an excellent shade tree.
-Tough & adaptable – Triumph Elm handles heat, cold, wind, urban conditions, and a variety of soil types well.
-Excellent disease resistance – It was selected for strong resistance to Dutch elm disease, which devastated many of the beautiful American elms that once lined streets across the country.
-Great mature size – Triumph Elms can eventually reach around 50–60 feet tall with a broad canopy, making them a wonderful choice for larger yards, farms, and properties where you want long-term shade.

We finally got our land bridge finished on our pond!
As you can see in the first photo, when we get a decent amount of rain, it makes it impossible to cross over to the other side.
After to many dump truck loads of dirt to count, we finished it up today!
Now we just need some good rain to raise the water level back up!

🌳 Tree Spotlight: Sycamore!

Did you know sycamore trees are some of the largest native shade trees in North America? They’re easy to recognize by their beautiful mottled bark, which naturally flakes away to reveal patches of cream, tan, gray, and green underneath. As the tree matures, that bright, almost white upper trunk can really stand out in the landscape.

A few more fun facts about sycamores:

-They’re fast growers, making them a great option if you’re wanting shade sooner rather than later.
-Mature trees can become absolutely massive, often reaching 70–100+ feet tall with a broad canopy.
-Their large size and branching structure can provide valuable habitat for birds and other wildlife.
-Their distinctive bark gives them plenty of interest even after the leaves are gone in winter.

If you have plenty of room and are looking for a big, beautiful tree that can make a statement for generations, a sycamore is definitely one to consider.

A great way to spend this beautiful evening!

We had a little farm visitor!

We were hanging out by the pond when this little guy came out do the grass, saw us, and played dead. We gently moved him over to the woods so he could wake up, shake it off, and go about his evening.

While opossums may not be everyone’s idea of cute, they’re actually pretty helpful neighbors!

A few fun opossum facts:

They’re nature’s cleanup crew. Opossums are scavengers and will eat things like fallen fruit, insects, carrion, and other scraps that might otherwise attract pests.

They can help with unwanted critters. Their diet can include insects, mice, snails, slugs, and even some snakes.

Rabies is uncommon in opossums. Their lower body temperature makes them less likely than many other mammals to carry the rabies virus.

“Playing possum” is real! When extremely frightened, they can involuntarily go limp and appear dead. It isn’t really something they choose to do—it’s a defense response.

And one of my favorite facts: opossums are North America’s only native marsupial! Their babies are born tiny and continue developing in their mother’s pouch.

So if you see one wandering through your yard or property, there’s usually no reason to hurt it. Give it some space and let it continue on its way—it may actually be doing you a favor. 🤍

Did you know? Tulip poplars are one of the tallest native hardwood trees in North America — and they’re known for being fast growers, too!

In late spring, they produce beautiful tulip-shaped flowers that can provide nectar for pollinators. Their large leaves also make them a great option if you’re looking to add shade to your yard.

If you’re wanting a tree that grows fairly quickly, gets nice and tall, and has a little something extra to offer, a tulip poplar is definitely one to consider!
