Upon arrival, the dryer produced an initial airflow reading of 0.0, indicating no measurable airflow at the exterior termination. The customer also reported noticing a burning smell coming from the dryer.

We inspected the vent system with a camera scope and thoroughly cleaned the line using high-powered air and a motorized brush. During the cleaning, we removed a significant amount of moisture-saturated lint buildup.

Further inspection determined that the transition duct connection behind the dryer was contributing to the airflow problem. We replaced the transition duct and properly secured and sealed the connection using a clamp and UL-181 aluminum foil tape.

After completing the cleaning and repairs, the airflow improved from 0.0 to 6.7, which is an excellent result for a semi-rigid vent line that travels downward into the crawlspace.

The exterior louvered termination hood is damaged, is not properly weatherproofed, and does not have the recommended 12 inches of clearance above the ground. We advised the customer to have the termination repaired or replaced and properly weatherproofed as soon as possible to help prevent moisture, debris, and future airflow problems.
