Window replacement in Colorado requires a permit, and yes that includes your city.

Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Longmont, Loveland... virtually every municipality requires one. Permit costs run between $200 and $2,000 depending on the scope and location. Looking at hail resistant shingles? Not all Class 4 shingles are created equal.

Standard hail-resistant shingles typically rely on an added fiberglass layer to achieve their impact rating. SBS-modified shingles take a different approach by blending synthetic rubber directly into the asphalt, creating greater flexibility and impact resistance throughout the entire shingle.

In real Colorado hail conditions, that difference can be significant.

A quality window can last 20 to 40 years. A poorly installed one will fail long before that regardless of the brand.

Vinyl installed correctly should last 20 to 30 years in Colorado. Fiberglass windows can last 30 to 40 years. But before that time, window issues almost always come back to the same three things. Seal failure, improper installation, and inadequate flashing at the rough opening. The window itself is rarely the problem.
