Preserving History Through Craftsmanship

Nestled in Manchester, Vermont, Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, was built by Robert Todd Lincoln, the only son of President Abraham Lincoln to survive into adulthood. Completed in 1905, this elegant Georgian Revival mansion served as Robert and his wife Mary’s summer home and remained in the Lincoln family until 1975. Today, it stands as a treasured historic landmark.

One important part of Hildene’s architectural character is its iconic south facing balustrade. As part of ongoing preservation efforts, the historic railing required extensive restoration to protect its craftsmanship and maintain the home's original character for future generations.

rk MILES was proud to contribute to this meaningful project. We partnered with talented craftsman Tyler Gebhardt, to hand-turn the balusters, while our custom millwork shop crafted the remaining components. Made from Sapele Mahogany, each piece was primed and assembled in our shop.

It's a privilege to bring our expertise to a project that honors Vermont's history and reminds us that exceptional craftsmanship helps preserve the past for generations to come.
