Architecture has the power to make a difference in the world. We create design solutions that contribute to this philosophy.

Founded in 1997, MMW Architects is committed to contributing positively to the built environment, while working in harmony with the natural environment. We create places that enrich life’s daily rituals and activities through beauty and efficiency. Our projects respond to the land and climate, as well as to the cultural and historic setting, revealing the inherent attributes of time and place. The play of natural light in our buildings encourages the occupant to experience the passage of seasons. We take a holistic view of resource efficiency and sustainability in each project. Site planning, building design, systems design and material selection are interconnected facets of responsible resource efficient design. Good decisions save the owner money over the life of the building and contribute to a sustainable future. We believe that Architecture has the power to make a difference in the world and are committed to creating design solutions that contribute to that philosophy in all our work.

We are excited to announce that Jackson Hill has been promoted to Associate Architect! 🎉

Since joining the team, Jackson has taken on an increasingly broad range of work — from residential and mixed-use to healthcare and civic projects — bringing the same steady hand to each one. He moves naturally between design, coordination, and technical oversight, and has a genuine commitment to the collaborative process that makes great architecture possible.

Outside the office, if you can’t find him, he's likely on the river. Congratulations Jackson — well deserved!

Recently, the MMW team visited the Sherwood Shop — a project we designed for JM Moran & Company right here in Missoula.

Jeremy has been a longtime collaborator, and this project reflects that relationship. The design was driven by his priorities — cost, practicality, and the right feel for a team that builds things for a living. Lofted office space, simple utilitarian workshops, ample storage, and an urban character that fits right into the west side neighborhood.

Ice shaped this valley long before anyone called it home. Now Glacier Hall (the project we’ve known as Residence Life Hall) is taking shape on the University of Montana campus, named for Glacial Lake Missoula and Glacier National Park.

A recent site walk shows the University’s first new residence hall in more than 30 years coming along well. It’s six stories with 600+ beds, and it has lounges, a communal kitchen and patio, and gathering spaces at the heart of each community. It’s targeting LEED Gold and opens to students in fall 2027.

A snowy entry, the rhythm of reclaimed beams, a glowing music nook beckons, furniture grade casework, bath with a view, w**e cellar ready for its purpose. Vessel Residence. Professional photos still to come.

A lot is happening at Youth Homes right now and we couldn't be more proud to be part of it.

This week, Missoula celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the Birnbaum Youth Home, a new therapeutic shelter for youth ages 10 to 17 in crisis. The MMW team recently walked the site and the project is coming together beautifully ahead of its first residents moving in. We were also on site capturing photos of the finished space before the kids arrive.

From architectural and interior design to coordinating artwork, furniture selection, and installation — this has been a full team effort, and it shows. Grateful for every person and partner who helped bring this one home.

Creating housing for those in need has always been a passion for MMW. Last month, the Salish & Kootenai Housing Authority held a grand opening for their new Transitional Supportive Housing in Ronan, and we were honored to attend. The project created twelve two- and three-bedroom apartments that will support families working toward more stable, permanent housing. It's a meaningful addition to the housing resources available throughout the Mission Valley.

Earlier this year, a few of us walked through The Blue Parrot Residence. A University District home with real history — prohibition-era tea house, decades of Griz game gatherings, deep Missoula roots. Angie walked us through every decision, from the patterned wallpaper to the Onsen-style bathtub in the master.

Character preserved, updated for the people who live there now. 🏡

Last week the MMW team packed up the rafts and headed to the Blackfoot — one of our favorite annual traditions! Good water, better company, and a chance to bond outside of the office. For some it was a first. For all of us, a beautiful day getting sprayed by water guns on the river! 🌊

Mountain Line was just named the CTAA's 2026 Large System of the Year — the best transit system of its size in the country, recognized for a decade of zero-fare service, an electrifying fleet, and being the first system in Montana to run seven days a week.

Our own Don MacArthur, a Founding Principal at MMW, has served on Mountain Line's Board of Directors for years. Expanding transportation options for our community has always been one of his passions. Our office has supported that work directly too, designing bus shelters for riders across the system.

Congratulations to Mountain Line's whole team, board, and riders on a well-earned recognition.
