This weeks project gave me more proof about why I don't do 'fake wood' when replacing doors/drawers for clients. This is a lacquered finish that failed badly and the homeowners tried to touch up on their own after the finish failed and the doors swelled over time from contact.
The doors and drawer nearest the sink were destroyed and I so I ordered new custom matched ones that are identical to the rest of their beautiful kitchen.
I then took 6 drawers from the island and am simply refinishing them. I say 'simply', but when you see how damaged these fake wood pieces get over time, you know simply isn't the right term lol These need to have the swollen wood pulp dug out, epoxied, primed, sealed with vinyl sealer, sanded and primed again before I can even get to a paintable surface that will look brand new.
Pic 1 is what I'm working with and Pic 2 is the look right before the primer....getting closer for install day Friday, so send prayers and wine!🍷
