I might have been slightly over ambitious with winter sowing native plants this year, but here’s a 9 month update on what feels like a mini-plant nursery.
The majority of the seedlings in my plant pile were winter sown, but some I started early this summer. I guess I didn’t think I had enough plants?🙃😂
So far, I seem to be successful growing the plants, but I’m not great at sticking to a planting plan. I go out to plant and start putting things out randomly instead. I had a few designs drawn out when I started planting this winter, but the plants were all ready at different times so I put that idea on hold.
Now, I have a decent space that’s been covered with nursery plastic the last few months. When it cools down a bit, my new plan is to move the plant pile into that area for the winter. That should give me time to prep new spaces, and the plants can get a little bigger to re-plant in the spring. Not sure if that’s the best plan, but it’s where I’m at right now! If you have suggestions, let me know in the comments please!!
Blue mistflower is already blooming in the milk jugs. I intended to grow lots of these for bouquets but I’ll try again next year!

Tiny St John’s-wort. I’d love to have these in a hedgerow.
More St. John’s-wort and Liatris. These are the few that I got around to potting up in late spring. I also divided up the NJ Tea plants I grew, but they died right afterwards 😬
Anise Hyssop I got planted! The pollinators have been loving 🐝
Wild Quinine also got put in the ground. I love the unique blooms and texture they bring.
