🖤Countdown at 6 days to Halloween🖤

♥️Number 6: THE SHINING remains at the top of a Halloween list of movies but as designers we are always wondering -
Where did the crazy carpet in come from?

Based on available information, there are no documented notes from the production team, Stanley Kubrick’s archivists, or anyone involved in The Shining regarding where the iconic carpet was sourced.

Apparently the original designer appears to be David Hicks, celebrated interior and fashion designer who began creating bold, dramatic patterned carpets in the 1960s. His design, the “Hicks Hexagon,” was either purchased off the shelf for the Overlook Hotel set or custom-made as a copy for the movie.

♥️🖤The wallpaper shown here by Cole and Son is also called Hick’s Grand Hexagon after the same iconic designer. Hicks used strong, repeating geometric shapes—such as hexagons, octograms, chevrons, stripes, and zigzags—on carpets, wallpaper, upholstery, and ceilings to organize spaces and create visual rhythm. His iconic Hicks Hexagon pattern remains world-famous.

Either way, it is easy to see why it was selected—it makes a strikingly eerie statement in those long hotel corridors!
