✅ Match your countertop undertone to your cabinet finish (warm wood wants warm veining)
✅ Let one material lead and the other support, your kitchen needs a hierarchy
✅ Look at samples in your actual kitchen lighting, not just the showroom

THE DON’TS
❌ Don’t choose your countertop before your cabinet finish and color are locked in
❌ Don’t pair two bold statements and expect them to play nice
❌ Don’t trust a tiny countertop swatch to represent a full slab’s movement and veining
❌ Don’t forget undertones. Cool marble next to warm wood will fight you every time
❌ Don’t skip the in-person pairing, screens change color more than you’d think

New kitchen floor on the horizon? 🏡 Here’s what to know before you install:

✅ Choose waterproof LVP or porcelain tile near sinks and dishwashers. Coastal humidity plus daily spills need a floor that won’t swell or warp.

✅ Leave an expansion gap around the edges. Floors need room to move, especially floating floors.

✅ Bring samples home before deciding. Lighting changes everything, what looks great in-store can look totally different in your kitchen.

✅ Pick your floor color first. It’s the biggest surface in the room, so cabinets should complement it, not the other way around.

❌ Don’t install solid hardwood in a kitchen. Spills and humidity cause warping, cupping, and gaps over time.

❌ Don’t float a floor directly under fixed cabinets. It restricts natural movement and can cause buckling.

❌ Don’t match your floor and cabinets too closely in tone. It flattens the space, aim for contrast so both stand out.

❌ Don’t skip the subfloor check. Uneven or damaged subfloors cause squeaks and cracked tile down the road.

Before you pick your cabinet hardware, watch this.

DOS:
✅ Match your hardware finish to at least one other metal in the room (faucet, light fixture, appliances). Cohesion is everything.
✅ Size your pulls proportionally. Larger drawers need longer pulls, typically 1/3 the width of the drawer.
✅ Go soft-close on every hinge and drawer. You’ll thank yourself every single day.
✅ Consider finish durability. Matte black and brushed nickel hide fingerprints far better than polished chrome.

DON’TS:
❌ Don’t mix more than two metal finishes in one space. Three or more starts to feel chaotic.
❌ Don’t skip hardware on lower cabinets to “save money.” It affects function and resale value.
❌ Don’t choose hardware based on the showroom display alone. Hold it, feel the weight, imagine opening it 10 times a day.
❌ Don’t forget about your cabinet door style. Shaker doors are versatile, but ornate doors need simpler hardware so they don’t compete.

Here’s what we tell every pet owner who walks into our showroom: not all flooring is created equal when there’s fur involved.

Luxury vinyl plank is our go-to recommendation for most pet households. It’s scratch resistant, completely waterproof, and holds up to nail clicks and accidents without missing a beat. Hardwood can still work, just go with a harder wood species and a durable finish so those scratches don’t show up as fast. Carpet is the toughest sell for pet owners (it holds onto smells and stains longer than anything else), but a stain resistant option in a high traffic area can still be the right call depending on the room.

The real question isn’t just “what’s pet friendly,” it’s what fits your specific pet, your household, and the room you’re working with. That’s exactly the kind of conversation we love having in the showroom
