Come see how much a kitchen can transform with a few changes!

We started out with removing the cabinets/countertops and appliances so we could access the flooring.

From there, we added flooring under the dishwasher before sanding and refinishing the floors.

To make the floor transition seamless, we feathered the new red oak flooring in with the old for under the dishwasher.

For the new kitchen backsplash, we used 2-1/2 x 8 Zellige Pearl Opal polished ceramic tile in a 1/3 offset layout. The tile was finished with Iron grout color and metal edging for clean lines.

We also installed the metal backsplash behind the oven, which was provided by the client. This is to make any splashes and mess around the stove much easier to clean and keep the wall protected!

Martins Countertops Halewood 3cm Cambria Quartz was used for the new countertops. The company helped with the install of the countertops as well to make sure it was seamless with the cabinets.

The cabinets were also provided by the client separately for us to install. The dark coloring of the wood contrasts well with the lighter countertops and flooring. This way the kitchen doesn't get overwhelmed with the darker colors, instead drawing the eyes to the key points.

For a finishing modern accent, we installed a 39.4" Dimmable LED White Flush Mount Ceiling Light in the recessed ceiling.

We’re switching things up this week to explain how it’s not so “simple” to take out any wall you want in a remodel! Especially if that wall is load-bearing.

Below is a breakdown on what’s required for taking out a load-bearing wall, one we’re currently working on. We’re waiting on the last step currently, so you can look forward to future finished photos!

1. Figure out if the wall is load bearing. Luckily, the ceiling was open in the basement for this project. We were able to tell the wall they wanted removed was load-bearing as we could see how the floor joist was sistered at that exact point.

2. Contact an engineer to find out what size of beam we need to use to replace the load bearing wall

3. With the correct beam selected, we put a blueprint together that was sent to the City of Omaha to get permitted.

4. To be able to install a load-bearing beam inside of the floor joists instead of below, we had to build temporary walls to support what was already there.

5. With the temp walls built, we were able to install the correct I Beam inside of the floor joists. We did find out what we thought was a regular 2x4 wall, was actually a concrete fire wall between townhouses that went all the way up to the roofline. So instead of building and tying the beam inside the wall, we had to build supports that went on the outside of the fire wall. This created a small bump out in the kitchen, but it’s hidden by the fridge so it won’t be visible.

6. Have the inspector sign off on our installation of the beam being done properly and give us the all clear to remove the temp walls.

Sometimes it only takes a few changes to bring a space together!

For this renovation, our focus was on installing new flooring and a tile backsplash wall.

To be able to install the new flooring, we started off by prepping and leveling the floor.

This process includes: cleaning the concrete with a grinder, applying two coats of roll-cote v***r barrier, making a barrier around the edges to keep the leveler in the correct area, and pouring the self leveling underlayment.

After this was completed, we installed LVP flooring that mimics wood flooring along with shoe moulding.

The final piece to tie everything together was the brick tile on the sink wall! The brick tile goes from the countertop all the way to the ceiling. This tile makes it easy to achieve the brick look without working with actual brick.

This master bathroom feels like a brand new room!

We started out demoing most of the room. Then we put in new framing for a drop in tub, knee wall in the shower with a niche, a side wall in the shower, and new sub flooring.

After the sub flooring was installed, we installed Realm II Assembly 12x24 tile in a ⅓ offset layout with Laticrete epoxy grout in smoke gray.

A Kohler Underscore Rectangle 60” Drop In/Undermount White Acrylic Soaking Tub was installed with the Delta Ashlyn Deck Mounted Roman Tub Filler in a brilliance stainless finish.

For the tub surround/face/deck tile, we used the same Realm floor tile with a horizontal liner of Ombre Silver 6x12 tile on the surround and face. To finish off the tub area, we used Pewter Rondec metal edging for the exposed edges of tile.

The shower walls were fully done in the Silver tile, vertical brick for the side walls and horizontal brick for the back wall. The floor tile used was Source Pure 2x2 white mosaic.

For easier accessibility, we installed a floating shower bench using the Realm tile. The shower niche was done in a combination of the Realm tile and Silver tile for the shelves.

To finish off the shower space, we used the Silver tile as trim around it with Rondec metal edging to round it out!

The vanities were updated with cabinets from Fox Cabinets and Drift Remnant countertops from Martins Countertops with 4” backsplashes and Square Undermount Sinks.

For final touches, we installed the following: exhaust fan/light and vent covers, ceiling fan, vanity pendants, wafer lights, new baseboard and shoe moulding, 2 maple floating shelves above the toilet, new saloon swinging door for bathroom entry, LED lighted mirrors, and a shower door with glass on the half shower wall!

This kitchen update needed no demo, only a bit of work to tie the space together!

We installed 5”x5” Zellige Perla Polished Ceramic tiles by Villa up to the ceiling for this kitchen backsplash, using Permacolor Select Grout with Frosty Grout Colorant. The backsplash also fully covered the kitchen sink window recess.

In the coffee nook, the same tile and grout went up to the bottom of the cabinet. We also wrapped the tile up on the side walls of the nook at the same height to create further wall protection, making it easy to wipe down any spills or splashes!

We used ⅜ Frosty Laticrete metal edging around the window framing and along the edges of the tile to finish off this project with clean lines.

This bathroom remodel shows what you can do even in unconventional layouts!

The demo included: tub, shower, surround, toilet, carpet, tile, and the vanity top/sink.

After the demo, we made sure the tub/shower walls were flat and plumb and replaced the moldy subflooring.

For framing, we added blocking along the pocket door and for robe hooks and a towel ring. Once blocking was in place, we patched and sanded the walls for a clean new look.

A timed exhaust fan was installed to help reduce moisture buildup.

We left the previous vanity cabinet, but replaced the counter top with a Calacatta Prada Remnant countertop from Martins Countertops that wraps up the wall 4” as a backsplash. A new White oval sink with Delta Velum Single Hole Bathroom Faucet with Curved Spout and Push Pop-Up was installed as well.

To tackle the flooring, we leveled the floor, used a stratamatt underlayment, and topped it off with 6”x24” Emser Larchmont Canton wood plank tile with chrome jolly trim.

The new Kohler Entity 60” Three Wall Alcove Acrylic Soaking Tub was installed before the surround.

We used Martin’s ½” Corian Solid Surface Antartica panels for the surround, one 59”x60” and two 34”x60” with two small drop down ear pieces to notch around the tub and 2 corner shelves. To finish this up to the ceiling, we used White Morocco Arabesque tile. For hardware, we installed a Delta Nicoli Monitor 14 Series Single Function Pressure Balanced Tub and Shower with Included Rough-In Valve.

To bring it all together, we installed: a Kohler Two-Piece Elongated Toilet with 12” Rough In from the Wellworth Collection, Delta Velum Wall Mounted Euro Toilet Paper Holder, Delta Trinsic Wall Mounted Towel Ring, and three Delta Trinsic Single Robe Hooks.

This master bathroom remodel shows off the difference tile can make!

We started out with demoing out all of the previous tile and carpet, shower, corner tub and tile surround, toilet, vanity and countertop, backsplash, and all hardware.

We installed a Ditra Heat system with a Programmable Touchscreen Smart Thermostat.

On top of the heated flooring, we used 12”x24” Sterlina Ivory Matte tile in a ⅓ offset layout. The same tile was cut and used to make the baseboards as well!

We built a new frame for where the new tub would sit. Installing the new 60” Drop In Deep Soaker Bath Tub, we paired it with a Delta Velum Deck Mounted Roman Tub faucet.

Around the new tub, we used Nobleza Lugo Polished 12”x24” tile in a ⅓ offset layout for the main tub surround and deck with a horizontal liner of Solara Meriva 2" hexagon tile.

For the shower, first we plumbed the walls as flat/level as possible. We used Nobleza Lugo Polished 12”x24” tile in a ⅓ offset layout for the shower walls with a horizontal liner of Solara Meriva 2" hexagon tile. The shower floor is also Solara Meriva 2" hexagon tiles.

We installed three white Schluter Pentagonal Brushed Stainless Steel Grates as shelves in the shower. We used a drain with modern retro brushed chrome, Delta 2.5 GPM multi function shower head arm and fl**ge, and chrome delta velum handle.

For the vanity, we did new paintable three drawer stack cabinets with double oval sinks from . The countertop is Calacatta Prado Remnant. The sinks are finished off with Delta Velum 1.2 GPM Single Hole Bathroom Faucets. A new medicine cabinet was installed as well.

A new Kohler Highline Comfort Height Toilet with Elongated Bowl was installed, with a cabinet over it.

To bring the room together, we did the following: painted the cabinets and walls, installed a new shower door and mirrors, and added a new toilet paper mount holder, towel rings, and robe hooks.

Sometimes, a room just needs a makeover to freshen things up.

For this basement overhaul, we started out by removing some framing and drywall on the exterior TV wall.

Due to water seeping in through the foundation, we had Koala insulation come in and spray foam the foundation wall to seal and insulate it.

This was followed up with rebuilding the walls, sanding and patching the other walls, removing the trim, and prepping/cleaning the floor.

We had to level the concrete floor before installing Altas concord, fray sand, 12x24 tile in a third offset.

For finishing touches, we repainted the walls, ceiling, and trim, after installing new baseboards throughout the area.

Come see the updates you can achieve even in smaller spaces!

With just a few changes, the kitchen looks freshened up and ready to host.

S. Thelen Construction LLC started out by removing the flooring. Initially we wanted to save the wood flooring underneath.

However, the glue from the previous flooring ruined the wood floor underneath. As an alternative, we installed a light gray marble tile with baseboards and shoe moulding.

We also installed new wood beadboards as backsplash along with new Viatera Clarino quartz countertops. Behind the sink, we had to add insulation as there was none previously.

The cabinets were removed for this whole process, and reinstalled after. The cabinets got an update with new shelving and hardware. An enclosed cabinet was added above the fridge.
