Coming soon...Orange County Fire Station 31!

The design for this fire station is a harmonious blend of functionality and comfort, crafted to nurture the well-being of those who bravely serve and to equip them with the space and tools necessary to care for the community. Challenged with a site smaller than usual for a fire station, the compact footprint demanded ingenuity, with the upper floor serving as a sanctuary of rest and connection, offering rooms and shared spaces where firefighters can unwind and recharge between calls to action. Below, the operations area hums with readiness, its adaptable layout maximizing every inch to seamlessly accommodate vehicle storage and emergency response needs. Fire station 31 stands as both a beacon of public service and a model of innovative, eco-conscious architecture.

Thankful to partner with Orange County, Florida Government and Mulligan Constructors, Inc. on this project.

Orange County Fire Rescue will replace Station 31 in Dr. Phillips with a new two-story facility.

Eric Kleinsteuber, AIA and Alexandra Witthaus presented their session, "Material Memory: Technical Decisions in Historic Intervention" at the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Preserve Florida Conference. In historic preservation, every technical detail is a negotiation between present performance and preserved memory. Viewed through the lens of case studies of the Leu House, the Mote Morris House, the Rogers Kiene Building, the Maxey Crooms House and the historic Zephyrhills Theater, this session explored how the material record, embedded in wallpaper fragments, ornamental castings, roofing stratigraphy and structural assemblies, provides the foundation for responsible intervention.

Orange County, Florida Government rolled out the red carpet for the ribbon cutting at their brand new Mosquito Control Facility! Our team learned so much during the design process and is in truly in awe of the behind-the-scenes work that the County does all year long to protect citizens from dangerous mosquito-borne illnesses. This new facility features a laboratory with a climate-controlled insectary to breed and study mosquito populations, ample administration space for staff, light-filled gathering areas, and storage and maintenance bays for the County's fleet. Rest assured at your next outdoor gathering, Orange County has you covered!

Special thanks to Orange County, Steven Harrison, Randy Nixon, Guysen Bowler, Mike Scott, and Byron Brooks for including KMF in this celebration. And, as always, a huge shout out to our extended team, including SGM Engineering Inc., Premier Structural Engineering Inc., Magley Design, muralist C. Stanley Creative and Pine Hills artist, Seth "Seven" Charlestin. We are proud to partner with you all on this important project.

KMF Architects was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Galileo School for Gifted Learning in Sanford. This early learning center aims to be an oasis of inspiration, playfulness, and education. It is a manifestation of the Galileo School's mission in built form, interjected with site-specific considerations and a great deal of whimsy. Each element of the project is designed to enhance student comfort, happiness, safety and access to nature. The building's form presents an uplifting face to students and visitors, taking inspiration from the inventions of the astronomer Galileo Galilei as well as the nearby Sanford airport.
This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for future students, educators, and the entire community. We are proud to support a project that is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, innovation, and academic excellence through thoughtfully designed learning environments for our youngest learners.
We look forward to seeing the vision for Galileo School come to life and the positive impact it will have for generations to come.

KMF Architects was chosen by Florida Citrus Sports and the City of Orlando to generate the Design Criteria for the upcoming Events Center. Envisioned as an extension of the Stadium Sports and Entertainment District in Orlando, the Events Center is positioned adjacent to the stadium. This 140ksf facility is dominated by a field house - "the box" - that can fit an unobstructed full size football field. The box includes a permanent wood floor that can be configured for 8 basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, or 18 pickleball courts, as well as a variety of other sports. An event room, open mezzanine, concessions, cafe, flexible locker rooms and a variety of rentable spaces are all accessed off the grand lobby.

KMF is honored to take part in this exciting project!

Orange County's Barber Park Recreational Center is envisioned as a dynamic community hub that celebrates the spirit of sportsmanship, unity and local heritage. Designed to serve a wide range of recreational and social needs, the facility provides spaces that support athletics, wellness and community gathering while reflecting the identity and history of the surrounding neighborhood.

The architectural form of the building is inspired by the symbolism and movement of a sports pennant. During the design process, themes of teamwork, pride and collective energy guided the form-finding exploration. The resulting geometry features bold, angular planes that sweep across the building's exterior, evoking the flowing motion and tapered form of a pennant in motion. These forms create a sense of forward momentum and draw visitors toward the heart of the building.

Design also pays tribute to the site's agricultural past. Once home to Florida citrus groves, this history influenced the building's interior character. Colors and materials reference the natural qualities of an orange tree, with accents of vibrant orange and green paired with warm, natural textures. These elements connect the building to its roots while reinforcing a welcoming environment that celebrates both recreation and community.

We are honored to design the Climate First Bank Mount Dora branch. In keeping with Climate First's commitment to sustainability, this project is a small bank branch on a wooded site. The design reaches beyond the requirements of an otherwise typical outparcel development to create a building that engages with its site and larger ecosystem. Throughout the design process, all decisions were made according to the values of environmental responsibility shared by both client and architect. The building, when completed, will produce more energy from its solar roof and facades than it consumes, will redirect and reuse rainwater, will be built using salvaged lumber, and will pursue LEED Platinum certification. Its form and material choice echo the site’s previous life, providing a shelter in the forest for sustainability-minded people to gather and work together.
