This update was completed 6 months ago. One of my main concerns was creating a new entrance to the front door using this long ramp for access for my clients child's wheelchair. I didn't want it to look and feel like a regular ramp, but it certainly did need a railing. So I found a great welder and I designed this railing that was decorative but not over the top busy. It was very awkward in the before pics for visitors to even get to the front door! I think it is such an improvement and my clients are happy...

I discovered this lovely planting yesterday while picking up my lunch. It’s called Brunfelsia pauciflora or Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. It’s called that because of the 3 color blooms this shrub has at any one time, coming in with deep purple flowers, aging to lilac and finally fading to white, preferring a break from full afternoon sun. It can grow 5’- 8’ high x 4’-6’ wide, makes a good screen and is fragrant. Lastly, it is poisonous to dogs, cats and horses… so important you are aware of that. But a very cool evergreen shrub overall

This is a Callistemmon, but a different bloom color, than the standard red color. Its name is ‘Jeffers’ and it grows to about 6’-10’ only with a spread of 4’-5’, perfect to fill in a sunny corner or make it an accent! Tolerates heat, cold, drought and poor soil and it attracts hummingbirds, what more could you ask of a plant!!

This yellow plant is so cool, it’s a Phlomis fruticosa, also called Jerusalem sage. Low water, Mediterranean climate appropriate, full sun plant….this one’s about 1 1/2 years old. It’s a good choice for our hot summers 👍🫶

Today was out of my comfort zone, at the fabulous Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore today. I was involved in the Passport to Spring speaker series. I spoke on Perennials in the Garden and it was awesome! I shared how, where and when to plant, showed some before and after pics of my work and highlighted some great perennials for our summer dry climate as well as some tried and true pollinator plants, for birds, bees, butterflies and hummingbird’s.
I received some good positive feedback and hopefully people went home with more knowledge of this genre of plants for their own garden:-)
