St. Lawrence Nurseries

St. Lawrence Nurseries An organic nursery specializing in cold-hardy fruit and nut trees. Located in Potsdam, NY. My name is Connor Hardiman. St.

Lawrence Nurseries has been around for over 40 years, providing trees to our customers. Up until last year, the nursery was run by Bill and Diana MacKentley. They have since commenced a much deserved retirement, but I have taken over the business! Our customers are people in cold places who want to grow a few fruit trees, have a berry patch, or experiment with edible landscaping. Our aim is to pro

vide plants which will bear fruit in a very cold climate, not just look pretty in someone's yard, although many of them serve both purposes. To this end, we strive to ship healthy, tough young plants that are well-packaged and ready to grow. We are not a landscape retailer, and we do not sell trees by their caliper measurement. We are a real nursery growing hardy young plants that can be easily and successfully dug, shipped and replanted in your yard. All our trees are grown organically and sustainably, to deliver the best product we can.

At last, the long-awaited schedule of events for the next few months at the nursery! More details to come on each individual event, but we wanted to make sure we got the whole schedule out so folks can start planning for our “Party in the Orchard” evenings.

More events may very well be added to the schedule as time goes on, so keep an eye out for updates as the season continues!

Looking forward to seeing you at the farm!

We are so excited to see our Sweet Sap Silver Maples planted as part of this massive reforestation project in Central NY. We dropped off 2,600 of these trees this spring, and we have been loving seeing all of the videos and photos of them going into the ground!

In case you needed an extra boost of cuteness this morning, you came to the right place. St. Lawrence Nurseries is now officially a “Four Dog Farm”.

Adam surprised us this morning with his new puppy, Jack, that he got over the weekend. Soooo sweet and so cute! Everyone is getting along, and somehow Strava is still the smallest dog at the nursery 😂.

We planted this willow house when we first moved into our house 8 years ago (!!!), using leftover yellow basket willows from that year’s nursery season. You could also do this same thing with our green, laurel, or even corkscrew willows! After too long without a haircut, the house had gotten out-of-control, so I attempted coppicing for the first time. I was SO nervous about doing it, but, lo and behold, nature finds a way, and comes back every time. It was a very fun process to document, and I’m already looking forward to making more baskets this fall.

This has been the spring of permanent plantings! Our goal is to have a permanent version of pretty much everything we sell on our new property, so people can come try it! We’ve added new orchard trees, haskap and blueberry gardens, and now, cherry and juneberry plantings!

Two of each variety of our dwarf pie cherries are now planted in to concentric circles. There’s a big rock at the center of the circle, and the hope is that one day, it will be a perfect spot for picnics, totally surrounded by cherry blossoms! We also planted one of each juneberry (aka serviceberry, shadberry, etc….) in a row alongside the road. Someday, it will be a flowery sign of spring as you drive in or out of Potsdam on 56.
