Stock Culinary Goods

Stock Culinary Goods Thoughtfully sourced, well-designed kitchen tools, cooking resources and gifts for food lovers. I am beyond elated to introduce you Stock Culinary Goods.

This is my dream store. It's a place where people who love to cook and entertain can gather to find the materials to outfit their kitchens, decorate their tables, find inspiration or simply chat with other like-minded food enthusiasts. For some time now I have wanted to weave my zeal for cooking, my experience leading culinary classes at the Ocean House and my many years seeking out exceptional re

tail for the eat.shop guides into one enterprise. With Stock, I have the opportunity to do all of that right here in my beloved Rhode Island. The eat.shop guides reinforced for me how important it is that a retail space be more than just a point of purchase, but also a place that reflects and furthers community. For this reason, I want Stock to tap into and extend two of Providence's most well-known attributes: Its position as a creative and artistic city, and its reputation as a town that values and supports good dining. The store carries carefully curated assortment of tools and housewares made by our amazing local and regional artists, as well as cleverly designed products from around the country and world, one-of-a-kind antique finds, vintage cookbooks and more. It is convivial place too, where we offer tastings and samplings, culinary socials, all held at the big central wooden table. With all of our great restaurants and chefs, Johnson & Wales, the bevy of food trucks, Edible Rhody, the vibrant farmers' markets and the many food-crazed people I know personally, I'm confident the region is chock-a-block with those who enjoy cooking. Stock is for us. I really look forward to seeing you here -- to talk shop, swap recipes, share ideas. A good Stock, after all, is the foundation of good cooking!

I just realized; I don’t talk these up enough.

When I do, I mention that a local, RISD educated maker, Julie Springwater, has been making them for a long time. I talk about how many of us have played on these looms, but they rarely look this good! I talk about how fun the color combos are.

Then, I talk about how I’ve had mine for years and they still hold up and I use them for EVERYTHING because they hang on either side of my oven/stovetop. But what I realized is that I mostly talk about them as a lovely gift or as a locally made product. And I absolutely have not given them enough credit for being the workhorses they are! They should be the first thing I show, not the specialty item. My grey set are at least five years old. Maybe six? Seven? And I reach for them nearly every day. Thank you Julie! These rule!

Why yes, we do have merch, but did you know we also do special Stock Only exclusive collabs with some of our favorite makers? Here’s a few of the icons: Teeny Bowls from Michelle Phaneuf; a special stock base from Ocean State Pepper Co.; Stock Up blend from Dave’s Coffee; 70% dark chocolate bar from Boho Chocolate; RI Harvest Tea Towels from Cricisis; and of course, soft Bella & Canvas tees. Most designs courtesy of the lovely Leah Ammerman of Cricisis Design.

The organic ripples of these locally made ceramic charcuterie boards from Sak Pase make every plating an opportunity to play, to sculpt, to try different angles. Arranging flowers & making cheese boards are two of my most favorite, calming activities. Having the topography of the clay with its dimples & waves made this a fun puzzle to get absorbed in. Try one yourself! Tiffany made us 6, and she’ll be dropping off more soon, in different patterns & colors.

The Pallares have arrived from Spain! Without question, one of our favorite knives in store, from their design to their steel. A quick primer, when you’re looking at European made knives, such as Pallares, INOX stands for what we refer to as stainless. In this line, those without that are carbon steel — and those ones are really our faves! So fun to get them in in different steel compositions, different handles & different shapes. A Pallares for every one! Oh & check out those foine oyster knives!

This one’s for the crew. They are the Best of Rhode Island and I am so thrilled to see them honored with my dream acknowledgement. We didn’t know what we’d won for; I kept joking there would be a “I Can’t Believe They’re Still Here” award. And I was prepared to be grateful no matter what! After 15 years, it’s not unusual to be just part of the scenery. But we are seen! Not as “Best Cooking Store” or “OG Shoppy-Shoppe”, but for “Crafting Community” and that is *everything* we set out to do. A massive thank you to those pictured here, Marissa, Leah, Kaitlin, Abe & Emma. And a thank you to ALL Stockists who, layer by layer, improvement by improvement & customer by customer have built this. So many, but notably, Jill, Vic, Eliza, Alice, Sarah, Evelyn, Meara, First Emma, the various Rebeccas, Shonna, Alicia etc etc. The list goes on. This one’s for you all!! Thank you! And to the ones who worked that night and are helping craft the current good vibes so we could party, thank you Judson & CoCo!!! And of course, thank you Jamie & Rhode Island Monthly for getting it so right! xoxo Jan
