Today, we honor the lives and sacrifices of the service members who gave everything for our country.

Our office is closed in observance of Memorial Day as we spend the day reflecting, remembering, and gathering with loved ones.

First impressions happen instantly, yet the foyer is often one of the most challenging spaces in a home to design well. It must create a memorable visual statement while still supporting the rhythm of everyday life.

A thoughtfully designed entryway sets the tone for the entire home. Through layered materials, architectural detail, functional storage, and intentional lighting, we believe a foyer should feel both beautiful and deeply livable.

In our latest feature, we’re sharing how we approach foyer and entryway design—transforming overlooked pass-through spaces into welcoming introductions that feel timeless, personal, and connected to the way our clients live.

The most meaningful interiors are the ones that welcome you in instantly. A layered living room, a collected kitchen, a quiet corner filled with natural light. These are the details that turn a house into a home.

As interior designers, we believe beautiful homes should feel timeless, lived in, and truly you. The goal is never just a finished room. It’s creating spaces that feel comforting, grounding, and entirely your own.

What’s one thing that instantly makes a home feel special to you?

While the Richmond Symphony League Designer Showhouse has been in full swing, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes bringing our clients’ homes to life.

From custom cabinetry and construction meetings to layered material palettes and final installation details, every project is moving thoughtfully toward a home that feels personal, timeless, and deeply lived in.

As much as we love sharing showhouse moments and interior design inspiration, the heart of our work will always be creating homes that reflect the people who live there.

We can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on across Richmond and beyond.

As we wrapped up our time at the Richmond Symphony Designer Showhouse here in Virginia, the close of this year’s Southeastern Showhouse in Atlanta had us reflecting on past showhouse spaces that still stay with us.

One we continue to revisit is Nouveau Départ, our bedroom for the 2023 Southeastern Showhouse, featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. Inspired by Virginian and French influences, the space layered botanical elements, soft texture, and collected detail to create a room that felt both welcoming and transportive.

"The Art of Arrival" is shaped as much by what is unseen as what is built.

While rooted in a distinctly Jeffersonian permanence, we found ourselves drawn to the quieter presence of Martha Wayles Jefferson. By tempering formal architecture with tactile textures and a washed palette, we transformed rigid lines into a lived experience that feels both refined and rebellious.

It is a study in balance—where classical lineage meets a sense of joy that invites you to linger rather than just pass through.

A special thank you to Bond Millen, Benjamin Moore, Currey & Company, Fabulous Things, Justin Westbrook & Friends, The Shade Shop, and Thibaut Fabric & Wallcovering, whose generous partnership and exquisite contributions—from fabrics and wallcoverings to furnishings and finishes—helped bring this room to life with such beauty and intention.

Step inside the 2026 Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer Show House with Sara Hillery.

For our room, "The Art of Arrival," we reimagined Jeffersonian symmetry through a softer lens to create a space that feels personal and light.

It is a room designed for the quiet transition from the world outside to the intimacy of the home, where beauty is held lightly enough to make you feel immediately at ease.

Last chance to experience The Art of Arrival in person.

The Richmond Symphony League showhouse closes May 10, and we would love for you to see it before it’s gone. This space was designed to be felt as much as it is seen, from the first step inside to the final details that come into focus.
