Why am I sitting with Ronald McDonald you ask? I am beyond honored and excited to be designing a family guest suite at the new Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook, NY. This charity is near to my heart but more about that later. The Ronald McDonald House is an extraordinary place, creating a home away from home for families during the most difficult time of their lives - dealing with a child’s serious illness or injury. I am grateful to be able to use the power of design to bring comfort to some of these families. I can’t wait to get started!

I have been in the client service business for the past 26 years, as an attorney for 14 and designer for 12. One of the things that I love(d) about both jobs is that you are constantly learning. And I have learned that trust is the most important thing in service of your client. Without it the relationship quickly erodes. How do you gain that trust? By being transparent, keeping your word and admitting when you don’t know something. The last one was drilled into me when I was a young lawyer. The stakes might have been higher, but in all things, when in doubt call an expert. They only will make you look better.
