A look back at modern design from the 1950s! ✨
It is so fun to look through vintage kitchen catalog pages and see how much kitchen design has evolved over the decades. Back in the 1950s, modern improvements meant built in sliding flour bins, pull out lap tables, and under cabinet cook book shelves!
While we do not really need sliding flour racks anymore, it is amazing how many of these innovative ideas are still staples in modern kitchen design. Features like pull out slicing boards, vertical platter racks, and custom cutlery dividers started as 1950s solutions and evolved into the luxury cabinet storage features we install today.
At Kornerstone Kitchens, we love taking the best functional ideas from the past and updating them with smooth soft close glides, durable hardwood construction, and custom finishes.

One of the most overlooked details in kitchen design is the island end panel! ✨
It may seem like a small feature, but the way you finish the sides of your island can completely change the personality and architectural style of your entire space. Here are a few of our favorite treatments:
• Simple Flush Ends: Clean, sleek, and timeless for a streamlined look
• Applied Door Panels: Adding rich depth, dimension, and cohesive cabinetry styling
• Waterfall Countertop Edges: Sleek stone flowing down the sides for modern luxury
There are so many creative ways to personalize your kitchen island, and our design team would love to help you find the perfect match for your home.

Which style is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below! 💬👇

Cabinet hardware is the finishing touch that pulls everything together. It’s a great way to add personality!

Mix metals. Add texture. Go bold or keep it classic. This is one of the easiest ways to elevate your kitchen without overthinking it.

Polished nickel feels timeless
Knurled pulls add just enough edge
Warm brass brings in that lived-in elegance
Matte black keeps things grounded
Glass k***s? Always a classic move

The right hardware doesn’t just function. It makes the whole space feel intentional.
