Design. Develop. Build. Workbench is a concept to completion building studio focused on creating missing middle infill housing. Let's get to work, together.

We manage every detail of your building project: feasibility studies, property development, architectural design, general contracting, and construction management. From multi-family housing to single family homes, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), mixed-use community spaces, and commercial tenant improvements, Workbench works better. Every great build starts with a great design.

Ask a room full of architects to carve a pumpkin and you’ll end up with a lot of pumpkin houses! 🎃🏡

We had a blast carving pumpkins with the team last week! 👻

Happy Halloween! 🧛‍♀️🧟‍♂️🧙‍♂️

🚨New Pod Ep Out Now! 🚨Episode 7 of the Infill Insiders is out now! 🎙️

In it, Sibley talks about Density Bonus Law Concessions and Waivers. Density Bonus Law works today largely because of its use of concessions and waivers to overcome zoning code barriers that would make the projects impossible or infeasible. And yet the details of what exactly requires a concession vs. a waiver and when one can and can't use either often remains murky in practice.

🚧 Project Update! 🚧Scotts Valley is really starting to take shape! We've almost finished the interior dry wall and have completed the arduous task of picking a white interior paint - iykyk. Cabinet installation is following the interior paint, and they're being installed as we write. For the exterior, stucco is well on its way to completion and we're hoping to take down all of the scaffolding in the next few weeks. Next up, a final round of exterior color paint selection! 💪

✅We are in support of and hoping for the passage of Prop 1: The Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026.

The act would provide $11.25B in funding for housing programs in California. This would renew funding for a whole cross-section of effective housing programs, with the bulk of it pairing with federal funding and tax credits to build new lower-income workforce housing. Also in the set of programs to be funded is a veteran program for home purchases (which self-repays through mortgage payments), permanent supportive housing, anti-displacement programs, and infill infrastructure to fund many repairs and upgrades already needed that also enable new housing. A disproportionate amount of this funding ends up helping the least affordable places that have jobs, like Santa Cruz County. We encourage your support of this measure.

Bright Plaza is a proposed 100% Affordable Housing Project, and if you'd live here, we want to hear your voice! We want to hear from renters, working families, and people who may one day live at Bright Plaza. These perspectives are too often underrepresented in local public processes. Potential residents are strongly encouraged to participate.

Please join our community meeting on Tuesday, September 29th, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00pm via Zoom. Link to the meeting will be posted on the City of Santa Cruz's website when available.

🚧Project Update! 🚧Clocktower Center is moving right along with 100% of Design Development completed! Our team is currently working on some pricing and exciting amenity floor plans. We're super impressed with the vibe that our interior design team over at has put together. The textures and colors really mimic the beauty of Santa Cruz and we just can't get over it! Up next - diving into the final construction document drawings.

🍂 Fall in Santa Cruz means something new is taking root.

As the season shifts, so does the work of building homes for the people who make this place home — the working families and longtime locals who keep our community whole.

The SC Housing Catalyst Fund exists for exactly that: turning investment into real, permanent housing right here on the Central Coast.

Why fall? It's when a lot of us take stock — reviewing where the year's money went, where it's going, and where we want to make a difference before the year closes. If housing is on that list, we'd love to be in the conversation. This is a chance to put resources into something local and lasting.

This isn't investing in the abstract. It's investing in a neighbor's front door. 🏡

Want to learn how it works? Let's talk. 👇
