Rainier Beach All Wheels Skatepark is officially OPEN - and we got the perfect fall day to celebrate it! Rainier Beach Skate Park 🛹🦽🛼🚲

The park was packed with kids, families, neighbors, and people on all kinds of wheels showing up to give it a try - and seeing so many different ages and abilities out there enjoying the park together was a pretty great way to mark opening day!

🙌 This project has been years in the making and was shaped by a lot of community advocacy and input along the way. A huge thank-you to Danielle Jackson and Danielle Pebbles Jackson, Parents for Skateparks, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Parks Foundation, Skate Like a Girl Seattle, Rainier Beach Action Coalition and ALL of the Rainier Beach community members who showed up, shared ideas, and kept pushing this project forward!!

Environmental Works was lucky to be part of that process, helping facilitate the community design work and translating those conversations into the early design, with Nicolas Morin and Peter Cromwell leading the project while at EW.

Additional thanks to the civil engineers at Mayfly Engineering + Design, structural engineers at Lund Opsahl, skatepark designers at Evergreen Skateparks, the team at ABLE, and mural artist Myron Curry 🌈🎨

Curious about designing supportive spaces? Come tour Plymouth Redmond Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) with us!

AIA Seattle’s Committee on Homelessness (COHO) is hosting a construction tour of Plymouth Housing’s new PSH project in downtown Redmond.

The tour will look at some of the design decisions that are especially important in Permanent Supportive Housing, including how the building directly supports people transitioning out of homelessness - prioritizing dignity, healing, and belonging. We hope to see you there!

What a treat to spend a few days in Bozeman with fellow community design centers and colleagues from across the country!

We’re back from ACD49 with lots of ideas, great conversations, and plenty of appreciation for this community of people doing thoughtful, community-centered work in so many different ways.

A HUGE thanks to the Association for Community Design, Montana State University, and everyone who made these inspiring few days possible!

A new look at Plymouth Redmond as construction gets closer to the finish line!!

This aerial video from Walsh Construction Co. shows just how much has changed on site. The new Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) building is now VERY much part of downtown Redmond, just steps from the light rail station 🚊 grocery stores🛒 retail 📚and restaurants🍜!

When it opens, Plymouth Redmond will provide 💯 new homes for people exiting homelessness, along with on-site services for residents. 🏠🫂🙌

Several of us from Environmental Works recently attended Plymouth Housing Keys to Hope luncheon, where we ✨so✨many inspiring messages from Plymouth staff about how important and effective their services are!

It made us reflect on how the design of this project really has done its best to embrace Plymouth’s PSH mission, and we’re so excited to see it moving toward completion by the end of this year.

🚧 And stay tuned — AIA Seattle Committee on Homelessness is hosting a construction tour 👷‍♀️of Plymouth Redmond in November. We’ll be sharing more details soon!

Just a year ago, this was an empty lot, and on Tuesday, we joined Island Roots Housing and a packed crowd of community members in Langley to celebrate the completion of Generations Place! - the first new affordable apartments built in Langley in more than 35 years!

It was 💙wonderful🩵 to see so many people gathered around a project that has been shaped and supported by the community from the very beginning.

One thing we kept hearing throughout the event was how much these homes FEEL like Langley. People were so excited to see new homes for local workers and families, but they were also genuinely proud of what had been built. 🏡 🪴 From the planted courtyard winding between the buildings to the artistic details 🐦 🪺 woven throughout the site, there was a lot of appreciation for the care that went into making this place feel at home on the main street.

The celebration closed with a community blessing for the future residents, wishing peace, harmony, prosperity, and joy for the families who will soon call Generations Place home.

A special shoutout to our EW team members Christina and Markus, who were invited to help with the ribbon-cutting. Projects like this take years of dedication from so many people, and it was heartwarming to see them celebrating alongside the community that brought it to life.

Environmental Works took a recent field trip to check out construction progress by at Bryant Manor!

For Environmental Works’ Aaron, Director and Senior Architect, this meaningful project has been nearly 10 years in the making, so getting to walk the site with the team and share it in person was a big moment.

As Aaron put it, “It’s been a real pleasure to share the project with our team—and to introduce them to the Compass crew, who have been doing an amazing job and who we’ve built a strong relationship with over the years.”

Moments like these are a great reminder of how many people carry a project forward over time, and just how much those relationships matter!

This one has been shaped by a LOT of hands over the years, all in support of First A.M.E. Housing’s mission to provide affordable housing in the Central District and help keep families connected to their community.

We’ve had a lot of interest in how we came to reside in Capitol Hill's historic Firestation No. 7! 🚒

As the Seattle DON story shares, it was the result of passionate community action in a city ready to embrace change.

We pulled a few of our favorite flyers and letters from the 1970’s archives that we thought folks would enjoy.

People were organizing, writing, and making it clear that this place, and the organizations it housed, mattered. The neighborhood didn’t want another parking lot! 🌎 🕊️ 🤝 💙

It’s refreshing how direct it all is. Show up. Speak out. Take care of your community.

It’s STILL good advice!
