This marks one of the most significant projects in our studio’s history.

The recent opening of the Central Concourse Expansion at SEA marks a major milestone for our region and an exciting new chapter for one of the Pacific Northwest’s most important gateways.

Among the new destinations welcoming travelers from around the world is Nanny’s BBQ, inspired by family traditions, Filipino cultural influences, and the spirit of hospitality that defines our region. Drawing from generations of backyard cookouts, shared meals, and a deep appreciation for the diverse communities that make Seattle what it is, Nanny’s offers travelers an authentic taste of the Pacific Northwest through both food and experience.

For us, this project represents far more than the design of a food and beverage concept. As a South Seattle-founded design studio, the opportunity to help bring a locally owned concept to life within an international airport is both humbling and deeply meaningful. To contribute to a space that will serve millions of travelers, including visitors arriving for the FIFA World Cup and beyond, is a reminder of the power of local stories, local businesses, and community-rooted design on a global stage.

Projects of this scale are only possible through trust, collaboration, and the collective effort of an incredible team. We are grateful to Max Heigh & Aunty Leann, the Port of Seattle , our entire consultant team, contractors, craftspeople, and project partners who helped transform this vision into reality. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this journey.

We’re proud of what was built, but even more grateful for the people who made it possible.

La Union Studio partnered with to refresh and reimagine their space - helping them expand beyond their evening dance class offerings.

Together, we transformed portions of the studio into a welcoming daytime third place environment through the introduction of - Now open as a space for youth, neighbors, families, and creatives alike, to gather, work, recharge, and connect over smoothies, açaí bowls, and light bites. 🥤🍓

Rooted in Seattle’s robust hip-hop culture, the
have long cultivated a safe and inclusive space for creative expression in South Seattle.

If you’re in the Chinatown International District, stop by for some tasty treats! Huge gratitude to for supporting this project.

Something delicious is taking shape at ‘s Seattle–Tacoma International Airport… and no, it’s not just the smell of BBQ. 👀🔥

Construction at Nanny’s BBQ inside the C-Concourse Expansion is moving fast, and the space is finally starting to show its personality. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen major milestones come together, signage courtesy of installed, custom casework going in, lighting fixtures illuminating the space, and interior finishes starting to give the space some flavor.

What was once a framed-out shell is now quickly transforming into a vibrant restaurant environment that will soon welcome travelers passing through SEA!

Stay tuned for more progress!

This week is Architecture Week!

This week, we’re celebrating the designers, builders, dreamers, and community partners who transform ideas into places that bring people together. Whether it’s a neighborhood café, a cultural hub, a family home, or a space for learning and healing, great design has the power to reflect who we are and inspire who we can become.

As a purveyor of design & space, La Union Studio is proud to practice architecture rooted in culture, community, and connection, and where every project is an opportunity to create spaces that feel personal, purposeful, and alive.

What’s the ROI of cultural capital?

In a world where brands compete on price and speed, the real differentiator is belonging. In design, culture is not ornamentation, it’s the foundation that shapes space, experience, and long-term value. It builds loyalty, deepens trust, and turns customers into community.

We’re grateful to the for inviting La Union Studio, and to join this week’s Elevate NW session on The ROI of Cultural Connectivity. It was an honor to speak with fellow business owners about share our experience with how cultural authenticity can strengthen brand identity, increase long-term value, and position companies to thrive!

POV: you came for the architecture, and accidentally found inner peace.

Visiting the Salk Institute designed by Louis Kahn, felt less like a tour and more like a quiet conversation with light and material. The way the courtyard opens to the Pacific, the thin line of water pulling your gaze to the horizon, the precision of concrete; every move is intentional.

The lesson? every design decision we’ve ever made feels…negotiable.

Completed in summer 2025, Laro Tayo, Tagalog for “let’s play”, is an indoor playground and community gathering space in Kent, WA designed as an open invitation for families to connect, create, and grow together.

The project transforms a simple tenant space into a warm, flexible environment where children can explore through open-ended play while caregivers recharge, work, or engage with one another. The design balances soft play zones, creative learning areas, and comfortable lounge spaces, supporting both independent exploration and shared family experiences.

More than a play space, Laro Tayo functions as a community hub, hosting parenting meetups, rotating classes, workshops, pop-ups, and embodies a new model for family-centered spaces private events that bring together families, creatives, and local entrepreneurs.

Huge gratitude to our collaborators and partners on this project and for helping our clients bring their vision to life!

We’re proud to share a first look at Nanny’s BBQ, a new Northwest BBQ joint coming to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as part of ‘s Central Concourse Expansion, slated to open in time to welcome FIFA World Cup visitors this summer.

Rooted in Pacific Northwest hospitality and family legacy, Nanny’s brings together slow-smoked classics, locally sourced ingredients, and a modern and elevated dining experience tailored for one of the region’s most dynamic global gateways. The restaurant blends Southern BBQ traditions with Seattle’s Filipino cultural influences, creating a warm, nostalgic, and distinctly regional sense of place for travelers passing through Sea-Tac.

For our studio, this project marks a momentous milestone, the opportunity to work on restaurant project at an international scale within a complex, high-performance airport environment, and with an extremely talented design, engineering and consultant team.

Immense gratitude to for the opportunity to collaborate and tell their family story, our Owner’s Reps Falkin Associates, our AOR collaborator , and our entire consultant team for their support of our clients.

Looking forward to sharing more buildout progress!
