Peoria City Hall is a striking example of Flemish Renaissance architecture, designed by Peoria architects Reeves & Baillie in the late 1890s. Built with Lake Superior red sandstone, the structure features stepped gables, arched openings, and an ornate copper cupola bell tower that give it its distinctive historic character.
One of its most unique architectural details is that the building was designed so any one of its four sides could serve as the front, reflecting both its symmetry and thoughtful civic design.
Inside, Peoria City Hall continues to impress with an open atrium rotunda, stained-glass skylight, decorative cast-iron staircases, Italian marble, red oak trim, and a coffered barrel-vaulted ceiling.
More than a century later, it remains a remarkable example of the craftsmanship and civic architecture found across Illinois.
