Another good example of why topping trees is not proper practice. This pecan has had it rough. Roughly 4 years ago this tree was topped. From what the client said, it shortly after started exhibiting pecan scab (fungal pathogen) symptoms. Fast forward after years of living with pecan scab, the city redid the road right next to it, killing important structural and feeder roots, couple that with the droughts we have had the last couple years and you get a perfect storm for this poor pecan. While it still may have suffered the consequences of root disturbance and potentially died back from that as well, the pecan scab from the topping severely impacted the trees ability to fight due to a lot of the trees energy storage being depleted due to the previous topping.
