On Thursday, Team MCLD gathered at MCLD Land Lab to expand our understanding of the invasive plant species colonizing several edges of the farm.
After decades of heavy grazing, one of our primary experiments has been to allow the land to sit fallow and to spontaneously regenerate for five full growing seasons. We’ve been carefully observing the fascinating plant and animal dynamics and site-specific food webs before embarking on a significant land management plan. As part of our stewardship explorations, we dug, examined, and discussed the negative (and sometimes positive) implications of knotw**d, knapw**d, bittersweet, burning bush, multiflora rose, honeysuckle, and glossy buckthorn—more thoughts to come on this subject as we continue to curate this ever-evolving, plant community.
No fall gathering would be complete without our 5th annual pumpkin carving contest— congratulations to Devin, Jen, and Remy for their “wins!” 🎃🔪🍂
