We’re aware of the graphic circulating regarding “exploding” trees 💥

This is a very dramatic representation of what can actually happen. While the risk of cracking & limb failures definitely increases with extreme temperatures, your trees will not spontaneously combust. These are temperatures that our area experiences every year. There will also not be a large temperature swing from above freezing to below freezing, since we have - unfortunately - been consistently below freezing for the past week 🥶

If you have concerns or have noticed sudden changes in your tree(s), we are more than happy to evaluate them and determine what steps, if any, should be taken.
We’d love nothing more than to keep your families safe and help preserve your trees!

The answer involves frozen sap, the polar vortex, and a lot of internet exaggeration.

We finally got the all clear to trim oaks! 🪵

We do work all winter, so we’ll be working our way down on our list of jobs for this year and contacting you about your work as it makes the most sense to perform it.

Got oaks?

Now is the best time to prune them!

The trees are in dormancy and it’s an easier time to see branch structure – plus, pruning now avoids the risk of oak wilt infection.

Oak wilt is a non-native fungal disease that can be deadly to all oak species. It is spread by sap-feeding beetles that become active in warm weather. These tiny beetles are attracted to fresh wounds on trees (like those made from pruning) and can carry oak wilt spores with them from infected trees.

You can help stop the spread of oak wilt in Minnesota! Protect your oaks by pruning or cutting now. And please don’t prune between April - July, when risk of spread is highest.

Wood chips & stump grindings ➡️ compost ➡️ screened ➡️ quality black dirt

We do our best to utilize as much of the byproduct from our work as possible.

- Logs for firewood & milling
- Cut & split firewood
- Wood chips for gardens, pathways, barnyards
- Wood chips & stump grindings continually turned over and composted to eventually be black dirt

The nursery provides young trees for reforestation efforts, but they’re running out of Norway pine and other seeds. The public is encouraged to collect seeds.
