"Is it going to be slippery?" is a fair question, especially heading into a New England winter. Here's the honest answer. 👇

Dry, most coated floors feel fine underfoot. Wet with snowmelt, a smooth, glossy finish can get slick.

Grip comes from texture, not shine:
🔹 Flake: a full broadcast leaves a fine, gritty texture under the clear coat, so most garages already have real grip.
🔹 Topcoat: for steps, entries, and wet winters, we can add sand to a solid-color coat, or a clear silica-based additive you'll barely see on any finish. We set the grit to fit the space.
🔹 Trade-off: more texture holds a little more dirt, so we show you samples to feel before you decide.

A good installer brings up traction before install day, not after the first slip. Prep over speed.

Why do we grind every garage slab instead of acid etching it? 👇

Acid etching is the shortcut you'll find in a lot of DIY kits: pour, scrub, rinse. It's cheap and needs no equipment. The catch is it can leave residue behind, open the surface unevenly, and it does little to old sealers or coatings.

A coating only holds as well as what it's stuck to.

So we diamond grind every slab. It opens the concrete evenly and takes off the weak, dirty top layer, so the coating bonds to clean, sound concrete.

It's more work up front: heavy grinders, dust control, and time. Our grinders run off generators we carry in our trailer, so you don't need special wiring.

Prep over speed. Whoever you hire, ask how they prep your slab.

Road salt season is coming. Here's how to keep a coated garage floor looking good through it. 👇

Slush from treated roads rides in on your tires, drips off the car, and dries into a white, chalky film. Left to build up all winter, that residue can dull the finish and leave a haze. Coated or not, the salt still needs to go.

1️⃣ Squeegee the melt.
Push slushy puddles out the door or toward a drain before they dry on the floor. Keep a squeegee by the door so it's a one-minute job. Bonus: less standing water means fewer slips.

2️⃣ Rinse off the salt film.
When white residue shows up, mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. On a day above freezing, a hose rinse and a squeegee work too. Rule of thumb: see white, time to rinse.

3️⃣ Go easy on the finish.
Skip harsh acids, strong solvents, and abrasive scrub pads. A soft brush or microfiber mop is all it takes. Not sure about a cleaner? Ask your installer first.

4️⃣ Plastic, not metal. Mats at the door.
Use a plastic shovel or squeegee on the garage floor, and don't chip ice with metal tools. A walk-off mat at the house door catches salt from boots.

Save this for the first snow. ❄️

Booking a garage floor coating this fall? Ask these 3 questions first. 👇

1️⃣ Did they test your slab for moisture? Moisture rising through concrete is a top cause of peeling.
2️⃣ What's the base coat under the flakes? Look for a moisture-barrier epoxy base, then flakes, then a polyaspartic topcoat.
3️⃣ When can you walk, park, and fully use it? In a warm garage (about 68°F+), plan on about 24 hours to walk, 72 hours to park, and 7 days to full cure. Cooler garages take longer, so ask for your timeline in writing.

Ask what’s under them.

The base coat holds the floor. Flakes hide the chemistry — prep and base decide if salt, hot tires, and moisture stay bonded or lift.

Epoxy, polyaspartic, and polyurea can all work when matched to your slab. DIY waterborne kits are not the same as a solid professional base. Before you book anyone, ask: what’s in the base? Moisture test? Grind depth? What’s in writing if it peels?
