The Monroe County Road Commission is unafraid to evaluate new ways to maximize its road investments. In that spirit, this recreational path is the first walking trail to receive an RPE-R treatment.

Pavement Maintenance Systems, our Michigan division, applied this Rapid Penetrating Emulsion Rejuvenator as an early-life preservation treatment to restore the asphalt binder and keep the pavement in great condition for longer.

Stewart Schwikert, leader of Pavement Maintenance Systems, says: “Through our experience applying RPE-R, we found an opportunity to support a broader range of agency needs. We invested in a new way to apply this treatment to narrower paths. Really, it’s all about expanding what’s possible for our customers when it comes to preserving pavement.”

How much do you know about the process of paving roads? Otto has spent over two decades helping ensure the roads we drive on meet the highest standards. As a Quality Control Technician, he focuses on quality from start to finish. During the winter, he’s in the lab preparing and testing mix designs. During paving season, he’s in the field confirming the final product meets specifications.

Ever feel like road maintenance is a game of whack-a-mole? Patch one pothole and two more spring up. Repair one pavement and another two are failing.

In Illinois, Champaign County has a system for beating the game. This summer, they used Cold In-place Recycling (CIR) to reset the clock on CH-6. One pass of the CIR train recycled 92,314 SY of pavement and widened the shoulders at the same time.

Good news for Hoosiers: Indiana got the memo... We've been busy applying J-Band VRAM on Indiana DOT projects all over the state. For drivers, that means stronger pavement joints that need less disruptive maintenance, and an ROI that frees up money for other necessary roadwork.

So far, we've done work on U.S. Routes 12, 20, 30, 31, 33, 52 — Interstates 64, 65, 70, 74, 94, 469 and more!
