Washmo Tiny Farm My husband and I are raising chickens and growing as much food as possible on our tiny homestead. This is our story. I’m here to tell you that you can do it!

We started slow and small in 2023. Our chicken run and garden has tripled since then.

I love when chicks are hatched in the coop. Mama hen takes care of them, teaches them to do all of the chicken things and I don’t have to worry about integrating them later!

Ghost insisted on being broody in the hottest part of the summer. I candled her eggs at 9 days. I’m unsure about them. I hope she hatches at least a few chicks. Our roosters are young so this will be a good test to see how well they are doing their job. I’m tempted to incubate some just to check our fertility rate. Who is hatching this time of year?

I have a soft spot for frizzles! Fun fact, breeding frizzles with frizzles can create frazzles. Frazzles tend to be very unhealthy so keep frizzle roosters separate from frizzle hens! I only keep frizzle hens since I only have room for one flock. I love these crazy looking birds!

Hazel is one of our spring chicks (hatched on my birthday) who went to an amazing home. Unfortunately, Hazel grew into Herschel and couldn’t stay. So he came home to rejoin our flock. He’s adjusting well but sometimes needs a snuggle break from the rest of the flock. He’s a sweet beautiful boy who will make gorgeous babies!
