#𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 with Architectural Digest

Imagine being so wealthy that you purposely hide the labor that makes your mansion operate?! Take a gander at The Elms, one of the Gilded Age’s grandest Mansions in Newport, RI.
A 60,000-square-foot Gilded Age "summer home", built in 1901 for coal baron Edward and Herminie Berwind.

Designed by architect Horace Trumbauer—architecture designed SPECIFICALLY to conceal the labor that made its operations possible. A secret brick tunnel stretching over 150 feet underground to hide delivery 40 tons of coal to fuel the home's three boilers.😬🤯
