With all the heat, humidity, and scattered rain we've been getting across the Triad lately, your fescue lawn is already working overtime. One simple thing that can make a huge difference? A sharp mower blade.
When grass is torn instead of cut, those ragged tips turn brown faster, lose moisture more quickly, and can make your lawn look stressed even when it's getting water.
Triad Fescue Tip:
- Mow at 3.5-4 inches
- Never remove more than ⅓ of the blade at once
- Sharpen mower blades every 20-25 mowing hours (or at least a few times each season)
A lot of the "brown" we see this time of year isn't just disease; sometimes it's mower damage showing up in the summer heat.

Triad homeowners: this is exactly why we talk about grub prevention every June!!

This month, we're highlighting our Customer Service Manager, Catherine Cregger! Also, please help us celebrate a special milestone with Catherine; she got married this past weekend!
Catherine oversees our customer service team and is our Inside Sales Representative, helping ensure our customers have a great experience from start to finish.
When asked about her favorite part of the job, Catherine said:
"Being able to help or educate someone on how to make their outside spaces beautiful so they can enjoy their lawns and be proud of their home! Also, the team I get to work with every day makes coming into work enjoyable!"
One piece of lawn care advice she always shares is the importance of patience and consistency.
"Turf is a living, breathing plant and at the mercy of Mother Nature. It takes time to get a lawn established, and once you reach your goal, it takes consistency to keep it there!"
As a homeowner herself, Catherine keeps her lawn on our basic program, adds disease and insect control as needed, and plans to aerate and seed this fall.
Before joining W**d Man, Catherine worked as an Assignment Editor for a local news outlet, coordinating breaking news coverage and helping verify stories for the broadcasts.
