FULFILL YOUR OBLIGATIONS

What are obligations?
Obligations are things you owe to others because of a promise, duty, or responsibility — things you are expected to do or keep.

For example, telling the truth even when it is difficult, helping your community, and repaying money you borrowed.

From birth, and as we go through life, we accumulate obligations.

Unfulfilled obligation can lead to individual and social disorder. Unpaid debt or unmet duties can be replaced by blame and rationalizations such as, "I was owed it all in the first place," or "My parents are no good." Those to whom the obligation is owed often end up becoming the target.

What can we do about it? The Way to Happiness suggests helping others by going over their unfulfilled obligations with them and working out a way to fulfil them.

Allow children to help, even if they fumble and make mistakes. Be willing to accept a mutually agreeable solution from anyone who is trying to make good on an obligation.

The way to happiness is much easier when one fulfills one’s obligations and responsibilities.
