Our Plant of the Month for August is the Ricinocarpus tuberculatus commonly known as Wedding Bush. This is a large shrub growing between 2-3 metres with masses of glossy white fragrant star shaped flowers in Spring and Summer. The Wedding Bush has soft dark green needle like foliage and is ideally suited to screening and hedging because of it's dense quick growth. It will grow in full sun or part shade. The Wedding Bush is ideal to use as a cut flower and responds well to regular pruning to keep it in shape. The flowers of the Wedding Bush are rich in both pollen and nectar which will attract insects like Native Bees and Butterflies. Ricinocarpus tuberculatus has very low water requirements once established and will tolerate short periods of dryness. This one is perfect to brighten a dark spot in your garden.

Sunday July 26 This year Planet Ark are celebrating 30 years of National Tree Day. In that time there have been 28 million trees planted by over 5 million volunteers and over 720 000 schools have participated. National Tree Day is usually celebrated on the last Sunday of July but lets face it every day is Tree Day. Planet Ark has organised and encouraged people to get their hands dirty, connect with nature and make a positive difference in your local community.
Don't be put off if you can't find an organised planting in your community this weekend or don't have time for a group event you can still make a difference by purchasing a local native plant from your nursery and adding it to your home garden.
