We're thrilled to be featured on the cover of LUXE Magazine's Spring/Summer edition.

Rolling Hills Retreat began with a question we love to explore: how do you create a home that feels like a natural extension of its setting? The answer emerged from the site itself, from panoramic views of the Peterborough Highlands, the quiet rhythm of farmhouses and barns clustered across the countryside, and a family seeking space for both togetherness and retreat.

The feature highlights what makes this project special: stone, wood, and metal anchoring the home to its rural context, while glass passages and floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the boundary between inside and out. It showcases the year-round outdoor room, now a favourite family gathering spot, and the study/music room that opens or closes to suit the moment. Every sightline was carefully considered to bring sky, land, and horizon into daily life.

As the article beautifully puts it, there's a Latin term for what has been captured here: genius loci, the spirit of the place.

Thank you to our clients for their trust and vision, to 2H Interior Design for a thoughtful collaboration, and to the LUXE team and Kontora for bringing this story to life.

Supporting essential care, dignity, and second chances across our community.

As featured in LUXE’s Spring/Summer 2026 Edition, our annual You Give, We Give campaign is now underway.

This year, we’re proud to support

Belong Ottawa , the Ottawa Humane Society, and Youville Centre Ottawa, organizations doing critical work across our city.

To help amplify that impact, Hobin Architecture is matching all first-time donations, up to $45,000 until July 1, 2026. Every contribution goes further, helping extend care, compassion, and opportunity where it’s needed most.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, this is an opportunity to make twice the difference.

Rheal Labelle, Partner at Hobin Architecture, recently served as a judge for this year’s One of One Awards by Uncommon Ottawa, an event that celebrates creativity, individuality, and bold expression across the local design community.

As Rheal shared in All Things Home’s recent coverage, “events like this provide an important venue for artists, designers and design enthusiasts to come together to connect, exchange ideas and build relationships. That kind of dialogue and cross-pollination is essential to strengthening the design community and, ultimately, contributing to a more thoughtful and well-designed city.”

Engaging with the wider design community is essential. It’s how stronger ideas emerge, connections are built, and more thoughtful cities take shape.

Celebrating two remarkable careers

Earlier this month, we gathered at 1818 Farm & Cidery to celebrate the retirements of Wayne Fralic and Andrew Thom, marking the close of over three decades with Hobin Architecture.

Surrounded by colleagues, friends, and family, the evening was a chance to reflect on the lasting impact both Wayne and Andrew have had on our firm. From Wayne’s technical expertise and leadership on some of our most complex residential projects, to Andrew’s steady guidance behind the scenes supporting the firm’s growth and stability, their contributions have helped shape Hobin in meaningful ways.

We’re grateful to 1818 Farm & Cidery for opening their doors to us, and to everyone who joined in making the evening so special.

Congratulations again, Wayne and Andrew. Your legacy here is lasting, and you will be greatly missed.

You Give, We Give 2026

Now in its sixth year, Hobin Architecture’s annual fundraising initiative, You Give, We Give, is calling on our community to support three essential organizations serving Ottawa: Belong Ottawa, the Ottawa Humane Society, and Youville Centre - Ottawa.

In a time of uncertainty, these organizations are experiencing increased demand for their services and need community support more than ever.

To help strengthen their impact, Hobin Architecture has pledged to match first‑time donations up to $45,000 until July 1, 2026. This matching initiative is designed to amplify every contribution, allowing these vital organizations to continue providing care, compassion, and opportunity to people—and animals—across our city.

Since launching the initiative, this collective effort has raised nearly $600,000 in support of local organizations, a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, this is a chance to make your support go twice as far.

National recognition for Quarry Park Contemporary

Our project, Quarry Park Contemporary, has been nominated for a National Net Zero Award at the 2026 Canadian Home Builders’ Association Awards for Housing Excellence.

With over 900 entries submitted across 49 categories this year, we’re honoured to see this project recognized at a national level alongside our partners at RND Construction.

Built to Net Zero standards, the home is designed to use over 60% less energy than a typical new build while significantly reducing its environmental impact. High-performance heating and cooling, advanced windows, and smart home technology work together to create a space that is comfortable, efficient, and easy to live in year-round.

More than just a house, Quarry Park Contemporary reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainable urban infill, where environmental performance, design, and everyday living come together with purpose.

An interesting milestone for our team: the neighbouring home, also by Hobin Architecture with RND Construction, received this same award in 2024, highlighting our shared commitment to advancing sustainable housing.

Thank you to our clients, collaborators, and the team behind this project.

It’s these moments outside the office that reflect the same teamwork and camaraderie we bring to our projects every day.

Construction Update | Mosaïq Ottawa Phase 2

Progress continues at Mosaïq Ottawa Phase 2, our collaboration with Ottawa Community Housing - OCH, with the townhomes reaching a key milestone and work continuing at the apartment buildings.

As part of the development that began with Mosaïq Ottawa Phase 1, this phase will deliver a mix of mid-rise apartments and townhomes designed to support inclusive, community-focused living in the heart of Ottawa. Built to Passive House standards, the project prioritizes energy efficiency, long-term performance, and resident comfort, while helping to reduce operating costs over time. These progress photos highlight the super-insulated wall assemblies which contribute in large part to the project’s superior energy performance.

The design also incorporates best practices for accessible, visitable, and barrier-free housing, ensuring the community is welcoming and adaptable for residents of all ages and abilities.

Mosaïq Ottawa Phase 2 represents a shared commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality affordable housing, and we’re proud to see it continue to take shape.

A heritage structure in Westboro Village is set to be carefully relocated next week as part of The Parkstone, our collaboration with Trinity.

The Champlain Oil gas station, a rare example of early 20th-century “cottage-style” service station, will be preserved and moved back to its original home as part of the site’s evolution.

Designed by Hobin Architecture, The Parkstone was shaped around the preservation of this historic structure, ensuring it remains a defining element of the neighbourhood while allowing the site to thoughtfully evolve around it.

Projects like this highlight the balance between growth and heritage, and the opportunity to carry forward the stories embedded in our city’s fabric.

Recognizing the women of Hobin Architecture.

Architecture is a collaborative discipline shaped by many voices. The women of Hobin bring creativity, expertise, and leadership that strengthen our studio, elevate our work, and help shape the communities we design for.

We’re proud to work alongside them and grateful for the energy, perspective, and talent they bring to our team and to the profession every day.

A winter tradition, the Hobin way!

Last Friday after work, our team gathered for an evening skate along the Rideau Canal, embracing one of Ottawa’s most iconic winter experiences together.

Moments like these may be simple, but they speak to the culture we value: showing up for one another, sharing experiences beyond project work, and enjoying the city we help shape.

A little fresh air, a few wobbly strides, and plenty of laughs made for the perfect way to close out the week!
