Ever wondered what "SWL" actually means when you’re looking at hoisting equipment? ⚖️
In short, SWL stands for Safe Working Load—it’s the absolute maximum weight a lifting system can safely handle without putting anyone at risk.

When picking the right weight capacity for a home or commercial setup, it’s easy to focus solely on the user's weight. But here's the golden rule: you have to account for the accessories too!

To get your calculation right, always add up:

User weight: The person being lifted.

Sling or stretcher weight: The lifting attachment itself.

Extra kit: Any spreader bars, scales, or padded accessories attached to the hoist.

If your total comes close to a equipment's limit, it’s always best to step up to the next SWL capacity. Choosing the right rating from day one guarantees total safety, prevents equipment strain, and gives everyone complete peace of mind.

Here are 3 key things you need to know about the Disabled Facilities Grant:

1️⃣ It’s a Local Council Grant: The DFG is a UK government grant (up to £30,000 in England) managed by your local council to help adapt your home so you can keep living independently.

2️⃣ It’s Means-Tested for Adults: The grant amount depends on household income and savings (though grants for disabled children under 19 are not means-tested!).
